I've been a little disappointed that things have gone so quiet,
especially as I've noticed some new colleagues have joined the list.
I've been VERY busy this term, and had not wanted to force a dialogue
for its own sake. (I suspect most people who join these lists would
prefer a quiet list, than a high activity one with little substance.)
There is also a tendency for discussion lists to have an initial
burst of activity, and then quieten, unless and until they react a
'critical mass' of correspondents. I hope this list continues to be a
medium for intelligent debate about learning in science, but see the
recent calm as suggesting (a) colleagues have been too busy to post
or (b) they have not had anything to say that they have wanted to
share; rather than an issue of responsibility. Joining the list
suggests a commitment to thinking about teaching and learning issues
- if there is a responsibility to encourage useful discussion it is
mine. A new year's resolution, perhaps?
