Folks
I've been looking for ideas/concepts in ESD to reach the heads and
hearts of my pupils(who've been sickened by the talk of recycling,
recycling, recycling....) and Land ahoy! I bumped into an article on
TNS*(I'm actually ashamed to say that I haven't heard about it until
a few days ago).
Some star concepts:
1.cradle to cradle(first coined by william Mcdough in his book by
the same title) - as designers design they must factor out the
concept of waste - design for disassembly ...
2.downcycling - combining(on recycling) highly sophisticated
compounds into substances of lesser technical value - ...
3.backcasting(opposite of forecasting) - framing goals with a future
desired outcome
4.molecular garbage - invisible pollutants(visible waste goes into
landfills) going into the air, water and soil...
5.reverse evolution - decreasing biodiversity(due to man's
activities) ...
6.precycling - we should be recycling as little as possible by
appropriate 'pre-cycling' ...
7.upstream thinking(known to systems thinkers) - looking at the
cause of a problem ...
