First Master of Education Program in Bulgaria
Requirements: The program is open for Bachelors/Masters (Chemistry) or other
graduates for which Chemistry is a basic component of their previous study.

Competencies:
The Master of Education/Chemistry
· Understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and the history and
philosophy of chemistry in order to create learning experiences that make
these aspects of science meaningful for the pupils;
· Understands how pupils learn chemistry and provides science-learning
opportunities that support their intellectual, social, and personal development;
· Understands how pupils differ in their approaches to learning science and
creates instructional opportunities that are adaptive to diverse learners;
· Understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage
pupils' development of conceptual understanding, inquiry skills, and
scientific habits of mind;
· Uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to
create science-learning environments that encourage positive social
interactions and active engagement in learning;
· Understands and uses a variety of communication techniques to foster
equity, inquiry, and supportive interaction in the classroom;
· Plans meaningful chemistry instruction based upon knowledge of science,
pupils, community, science curricula, and curriculum goals;
· Understands and uses a variety of authentic and equitable assessment
strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and
personal development of the learner;
· Is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of
his/her choices and actions on orders, and who actively pursues
opportunities to grow professionally;
· Fosters relationships with pupils and their families, colleagues, and
concerned others in order to support in more effective way pupil's learning
and well being.
The program is realized within three semesters (ECTS 90). There exists a
possibility the student himself/herself to construct a part of his/her
curriculum choosing amongst the courses (anyone with 4 ECTS):
Basic Concepts and Theories of Chemistry;
Problems of the Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development;
School Legislation;
Methods of Educational Research;
Methods for Improving the Pupils' Behavior in School;
History of Education (German classics and Pestalozzi);
History and Philosophy of Chemistry (after Kuhn and Lacatos);
Chemistry and Society (Public understanding of science; science fiction,
pseudo science, science and media);
Drug Education and Harassment in School;
Mathematics for Chemistry Teachers;
Rhetoric;
English for Chemistry Teachers.
Modern Chemical Technologies;
Teacher's Chemistry Compendium.
