Secondary Science Education Assistant Professor

The Center for Science Teaching and Learning, in conjunction with the
College of Education at Northern Arizona University, invites
applications for a tenure-track position in Secondary Science
Education at the assistant professor level starting Fall, 2006. We
seek an individual who can teach secondary science methods courses,
assist in the design and delivery of graduate programs in science
education, establish and maintain a record of scholarship and
grantsmanship, and provide regional leadership through outreach
activities.

Qualifications include a doctorate degree in science education or
closely related field. A strong background in science and experience
teaching secondary science in the public schools is preferred.

The successful candidate will:
Be able to teach secondary science methods courses for prospective
secondary teachers
Be able to assist in the design and delivery of graduate courses in
science education
Advise and recruit undergraduate and graduate science teachers
Establish and maintain a record of scholarship and grantsmanship
Provide regional leadership in science education through outreach activities

Northern Arizona University has a student population of about 18,000
at its main campus in Flagstaff and at about 30 sites across the
state. Committed to a diverse and civil working and learning
environment, NAU has earned a solid reputation as a university with
all the features of a large institution but with a personal touch,
with a faculty and staff dedicated to each students success. While
our emphasis is undergraduate education, we offer a wide range of
graduate programs and research. Our institution has carefully
integrated on-campus education with distance learning, forming
seamless avenues for students to earn degrees. Flagstaff has a
population of about 57,000, rich in cultural diversity. Located at
the base of the majestic San Francisco Peaks, Flagstaff is 140 miles
north of Phoenix at intersection of Interstate 17 and Interstate 40.

The Center for Science Teaching and Learning (http:/www.nau.edu/cstl)
is a teaching, research, evaluation, and materials resource for
science faculty and students across the <http://www.nau.edu>NAU
campus, for K-12 science teachers, and for informal science educators
statewide. The CSTL provides leadership in and coordination of
science education professional development, academic programs, and
outreach activities. CSTL is responsible for the recruitment,
advising, and student teaching placement and supervision for
secondary science teachers. The CSTL collaborates with the
<http://coe.nau.edu/>College of Education in support of elementary
science methods courses and provides extensive curriculum resources
for K-12 preservice and inservice teachers.
