Dear Keith

Don't suppose you know of any sources of funding for attending this?

What Works

CONFERENCE STRANDS

Science for the Early Years
How science can interest and meaningfully engage the very young
presents its own special challenges and opportunities. This strand
will enable presenters to share their research experiences and
frameworks for learning in this universally neglected field.

Professional Development
The preservice training and continual professional learning of
science teachers demand the coordination of various institutions and
programmes that places the teacher at the center of attention. Papers
here would share lessons from some of the best practices and policies
currently available.

Assessment in Science Education
Although assessment seems normative in the instructional processes,
one still aspires to construct valid and reliable tests. Studies in
this strand would be helpful in moving us forward in providing an
equitable education in science for all.

Learning Science in Informal Settings
Because forms of scientific cognition are often displayed in places
other than in school, understanding the complex dynamics and
sociocultural factors to facilitate the former are vital to
complement school-based learning.

Conceptual Change
To develop scientific literary usually requires significant
conceptual change in learners. Elements in this strand would include
ways of investigating students' conceptions, approaches for
conceptual change and conceptual development.

Inquiry Science
It is almost a truism that inquiry defines the heart of science
teaching and learning. Much is already known but there are many
questions still unanswered. A variety of empirical work and
theoretical studies are welcomed for this strand.

Curriculum and Instruction
This is a broad grouping that would see people interested in
discussing exemplary teaching and learning strategies, forms of
teacher thinking such as pedagogical content knowledge, leadership
styles, and classroom management among many others.

ICT in Science Education
Presenters here would be sharing the use of technology in various
aspects of the learning process in science education.

TRIPARTITE CONFERENCE ORGANISATION

This MOE-NIE-STAS International Science Education Conference 2006 is
jointly organised by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Singapore, the
National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological
University, and the Science Teachers' Association of Singapore (STAS).
