a student asked me why polymers can be isotactic when there is free
roatation around the single bond. The molymods we were using didnt help
to answer the question.I have come up with some ideas but would value
an AS level explanation.
Also as a non physicist i have difficulty describing the non polar
nature of trans alkenes, carbon dioxide etc. Saying that areas of
negative charge cancel them selves out does not impress my students. I
have been given the idea of resulting forces, but need a bit more of a
laymans term. The use of the word symmetry certainly causes problems
