I phoned Daventry District Council yesterday and received the news
that the outdoor pool has now been demolished. Within a short space of
time it will become a temporary car park, whilst the Council makes
plans for its permanent future.
The decision to close the pool was made in 2004 (if not earlier) and
those living locally would probably not have known this decision had
taken place until it was too late to reverse it.
I would be glad of further details/photos from anyone living locally
as it all helps to campaign more effectively for Britain's remaining
public pools. I have just e-mailed Tessa Jowell on the numerous
closures that have taken place and am working on an article
entitled "The loss of democracy in swimming"!
