NEXT STEPS FOR BROOMHILL POOL   Message List

On 3 April 2007, Ipswich Borough Council's Executive Committee
historically endorsed the Broomhill Pool Trust's £67,000 feasibility
study into the future of the iconic 1930's lido. The Executive also
approved £1,000,000 (subject to a business plan being approved)
towards the £3,900,000 required (end 2008 costs) to restore the
facility - and agreed to move to the "next stage".

NEXT STEPS FOR BROOMHILL POOL:

* The feasibility study identified, and began dialogue with, key
lottery and private funding bodies. Feedback was positive but
subject to formal application processes.

* The study also identified potential operators – all of whom
expressed a firm interest in running a restored facility.

* The Trust will send out a formal tender document to a wide range
of potential operators by end April 2007. Over the summer Ipswich
Borough Council and the trust will be negotiating Heads of Terms
lease.

* This process is expected to be concluded by September 2007.

* The Trust will then work with Ipswich Borough Council to appoint
an operator by October 2007.

* With an appointed operator in place the Operator and/or Trust will
begin the process of raising funds, primarily from lottery (plus
private) funding and begin restoration works.

FUNDRAISING ACTIVITY:

* In order to support applications for lottery and private funding
the Trust must also demonstrate that local business, and the people
of Ipswich , support our efforts to restore the pool. We are
therefore setting funding targets of £100,000 from local businesses
and £25,000 from the public.

* The Trust will be writing to one hundred local businesses and
corporations, who we hope will pledge support for at least £1000
towards our goal. The pledge will be payable when the funding target
has been accomplished. We hope that local businesses will respond
positively and that employees will also lobby their employers to
support us.

* Our website will be upgraded. Along with Broomhill news, the
website will also provide fundraising updates and allow the public
and local business to pledge support or raise funds towards the
restoration.

We believe that a restored Broomhill Pool will be a huge asset for
all our citizens and a wonderful addition to the leisure facilities
in Ipswich . This is a high profile project encompassing elements of
community, culture, health and heritage. We need a community effort -
please support us !

Best regards,

Mark Ling
