DROITWICH SPA LIDOS   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #609 of 2565 |
I regret to say that Wychavon District Council voted by approximately 2 to 1 at their meeting this evening that the site of the Lido should be incorporated in the surrounding park - effectively condemning the Lido to demolition.

We at SALT intend to investigate ways in which our campaign might be continued - we have already heard very encouraging words from the Campaign for Protection of Rural England and we believe that the Dept of Culture Media and Sport may have blocked any immediate action by the Council pending their own investigation.

The Council Chamber was packed with Droitwich residents all totally supportive of SALT's plans and it was particularly disappointing that 5 Councillors with wards in the town voted in favour of the Council (the district of 'Wychavon' is an artificial grouping of Droitwich Spa, Pershore and Evesham with their surrounding rural areas).

We are looking for new blood and new ideas to continue the campaign and the thoughts of any Group members would be appreciated.
