Re: [lipids] Use of FEP tubes in lipid extraction

Dear Dr Herrera
FEP tubes are made of propylene and any trace of
monomers can spoil the preparation if you dont
fractionate the extract by chromatography. The best
way to know is to try along the chain of reaction an
empty tube (blank tube) with all the reagents and to
look at the spikes on your chromatogram. If not, you
can use it but the test may be valuable for a certain
brand but not another. Be careful, glass tubes with
Teflon seals are less expensive and easier to wash.
Cordially
Dr C. Leray
