BECF List of Live Show Judges

How to become a "BECF Listed Judge"
This is simply a list of everyone who is willing and feels confident
to judge at live shows. You nominate yourself to be included. It is
simply a list of people who can be invited, at the show organiser's
discretion, to judge a class or classes at a live show.
If you are willing to judge at live model horse shows please consider
becoming a BECF LISTED JUDGE.

If you are interested please contact becfjudges@... with the
following details about yourself:
· Name (please also include your date of birth if 16 or under)
· Contact information (email, postal address, telephone, etc. with
preferences if applicable) - this will be required for show
organisers to invite you to judge!
· Classifications (see below)
· Credentials (optional - but please feel free to blow your own
trumpet here! Information such as you own/breed/show - or groom for
someone who does - real horses of the breed(s) you are willing to
judge - or maybe even judge them; you own/participate in/groom for
someone who competes in a particular activity; you sell or have
collected or perhaps worked for the company of a particular make for
x years - anything along those lines which might give you specialist
knowledge of any breed/type/activity/make/etc.)
N.B. - You must request to be "listed" yourself, not on behalf of
anyone else (or ask someone else to do it for you).

How to become a "BECF Recommended Judge"
Anyone in the hobby may Recommend another hobbyist who they feel to
be a "good" judge; once two different people have recommended any
judge, they are moved to the "Recommended" List. This will begin to
give a guide as to who is a "good" judge (as decided by everyone in
the hobby - or at least, everyone who attends live shows!).
From there, for every two people who Recommend a Listed Judge, they
will get a "star", up to a maximum of 4 stars (meaning that they will
have been recommended by at least 10 different people). I think by
that time they will be considered by most as a fair and knowledgeable
judge!
Please recommend responsibly!

Judges do need to be LISTED (in the classification for which they are
being Recommended) before they can become RECOMMENDED JUDGES, but
don't let that put you off Recommending anyone; so long as we can
contact them we will let them know that they have been Recommended
and invite them to become LISTED. They may prefer not to be
included, hence the need to be Listed before becoming Recommended
(this has to be up to the individual - but we don't want to "lose
out" on good judges who have just "not got round to" being Listed)!

Once a person has their first two recommendations, they will become a
BECF RECOMMENDED JUDGE; after two further recommendations they will
become a BECF RECOMMENDED* ("one star") JUDGE, followed by BECF
RECOMMENDED** JUDGE, BECF RECOMMENDED*** JUDGE and finally, BECF
RECOMMENDED**** JUDGE - and if that's you, you will be able to refer
to yourself that way!

If you would like to Recommend anyone who you feel is a good,
knowledgeable and fair judge, please send the following information
to becfjudges@... :
· Your name and contact details (just for our records, this will not
be passed on to anyone)
· Your nominee's name (and contact details if known)
· Classifications (see below). You may think someone an excellent
all-round judge, in which case you can just Recommend them, but if
you think someone is particularly good in any one (or more)
classification(s), please feel free to include this information.
· Where you have seen them judge. Initially there will (hopefully)
be a lot of people who know judges they would like to recommend, who
they have been able to watch judging over a number of years. In this
case you do not need to mention specific shows (unless you want to).
Newer members of the hobby are requested not to base their
recommendation on just one class or even a single show - be really
sure you think the person you want to nominate is a good judge. Then
go ahead and recommend them!

Classifications:
Examples:
You can volunteer to judge/be recommended as a judge in:
1. "any classes" (though if you are willing to be included in this
category you may still nominate any special interests/preferences you
have).
2. "any led classes"
3. individual breeds, groups of breeds (e.g., Mountain & Moorland
ponies) or wider categories (e.g., American breeds), etc.; this also
applies to "types" (e.g., Hunters).
4. "any performance classes"
5. any particular type of activity (e.g., Western) or be specific
(e.g., show jumping)
6. "any make/finish"
7. a group of makes/finishes (e.g., OF plastic models, customised
models)
8. specific makes/finishes (e.g., Julips, artist finish models)
9. any combination of the above!
Does anyone have any additions to this list?

Any queries/comments?
