Thanks to Gina for the details of this year's foray at Abney Park, led as
usual by the excellent Jo Weightman. It's on Saturday October 29 at 2pm and
fills a gap in the foray list nicely.
Thanks also to Andy and Yvette for yesterday's walk around Hampstead Heath
where there was a bit more on show than I expected given the dry weather.
There was a fair sprinkling of Russula, mostly R.grisea and R.parazurea both
of which are common on the heath, but the three highlights for me were a
single Chestnut Bolete, Gyroporus catsaneus, in very good nick; an abundant,
slimyfresh show of Oudemansiella mucida, Porcelain Fungus, on a couple of
big beech logs; and, last of the day and possibly the best, a small group of
four Agaricus vaporarius, Clustered Mushroom, which were still very young,
veils unbroken, with quite a strong, red colouration to the bruised stipe
and a faint smell of licorice.
