Dear Martha,
What a brilliant and truly original way of spreading the word about fungi!
We missed you at the BMS fungal taxonomy day at Kew last year. Lynne Boddy
presented your work, which sounded very interesting. Apparantly you were
unable to give the talk due to a subsequent engagement; an excuse I have
often wanted to give but lacked the courage. Pretty cool. Courage is
obviously something you do not lack as you plan to stand on a plinth in the
dark dressed as a fungus and be taken seriously!
Sorry I can't be there due to a prior engagement in Mallorca but I will be
there in spirit.
Regards,
Ted.

Hi Andy,
thanks for the message. It is indeed a most unsociable hour, I'll be very
impressed indeed if anyone does make it down!
There will be photos from it though, and it will be broadcast live on the
web, so there will be later opportunities to see it, if not in person.
If anyone is interested in keeping up with how the campaign goes, please
join my facebook group, Fungus on the Fourth Plinth.
best wishes,
martha

(www.oneandother.co.uk) I've been lucky enough to draw a place in this
project, and have decided to use my hour of fame to tell people about how
wonderful, and essential to life as we know it, fungi are. I'll be doing
this with banners, a megaphone, fancy dress, and hopefully some like-minded
people around the bottom of the plinth to help me out.

about fungi on local radio, but am keen to get the message out, and recruit
help and support from anyone interested! I'm doing this with the aid of Prof
Lynne Boddy (new president of the BMS), who was my PhD supervisor.

myself and hopefully many more people will be there. If anyone wants to join
us, or has ideas of how to promote the event or get media coverage so we can
tell as many people as possible about fungi, please get in touch!
