Dear All,

Just wanted to wish everyone in the group a very Happy Christmas and a
peaceful New Year.

2010 looks to be an interesting year in Eldorado-land, with the resort
taking off, a possible reunion and some other things which I hope to bring
to the website.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable time, whatever you're doing.

all the best,

James

yw. I hate the bloke so much. = I hate the BBC now and I hate BBC America that
sucks worse then BBC does.

My wife watches some soap over here in the US. OMG its so so fake. It makes
Eldoraod look like the creme of the creme.

As for Littlejohn anyone who writes something negative about Yenknob does
deserve a few Kudos points.

Beware ... that Daily Mail article was written by the awful Richard Littlejohn.
Given a choice of Yentob or Littlejohn, I know which of the two I would rather
be trapped in a lift with ...

LOL, many thanks for sharing this. And previously, I used to call the BBC1 man
'Yen-snob', but your insult is funnier and more accurate than mine!

Sorry... I had intended to reply before now, but was waiting to see if I
could find out any more information. Unfortunately, nothing yet.

I think she was fabulous. Rosemary was one of my favourite characters, no
doubt helped by Hilary's wonderful portrayal of her. It's such a shame if
the demise of the show affected her badly.

Thanks for taking those Specsavers photos Chris - it was lovely to see her
again - looking glam as ever!

I'm surprised that Adam is the only one to respond to the loss of one of The
Rado's leading actors!

I wrote to Hilary Crane a couple of times and never got a reply, so it's
quite possible she distanced herself totally from the series. It must have
been quite damaging and emotional for someone with a long and successful
career to get marked down for just one "mistake".

I last saw her modelling glasses for Specsavers, on the side of a phone box.
I took photos, which are at the website.

Does anyone else remember that daytime TV piece about the launch of Adios,
with Nina Myskow (remember her?) taking the weewee out of the series? I
vividly recall Hilary standing next to Nina and looking very angry.

One of the true great moments of The Rado: Rosemary and Jane meeting. "Are
you some kind of relation of Stanley's? / You could say that. I'm his
wife!".

This is very sad. I am pretty sure I saw her on an edition of "This Is Your
Life", in 2001/02 - she was a guest who came on stage to surprise whoever was
the subject, at that time.

Plus, if I remember correctly, she refused to discuss "Eldorado" ever again,
after it ended.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this webpage suggests that Hilary Crane
has died:

http://www.millatsonning.com/That%20Old%20Feeling.html

(The writer of That Old Feeling, Richard Harris, is Hilary's husband).

I've done some Googling, and found a page dated 1 October 09, which mentions
"the late actress Hilary Crane":
http://www.citylife.co.uk/theatre_dance/features/14660_former_corrie_baddie_is_s\
tepping_out

I can't find any other mention of it, and certainly don't see a proper obituary.
She's no longer listed as a client on her agent's website.

Hilary was 76.

I am sure we all have very happy memories of her as Rosemary Webb. The warmth
between Rosemary and Stanley; the murky secrets around how they met, and
Rosemary left her family; the awkward relationship with her son, Stephen;
Stephen rumbling that Stanley had been dishonest; the weddingt hat never was
(The Rado's only jilting!); Rosemary's illness; the immortal "Hello Stanley"
scene with Jane; Rosemary reporting Stanley missing ("he might be surfing");
Rosemary's "I'm sorry, what did you say your name was?"; Rosemary and Jane
plotting on the balcony ...

One of The Rado's greats gone.

Hi everyone,

There's now an interview with Robert Sturman, author of "Eldorado - A
Definitive Guide To A Place In The Sun" available on the website. You can
access it via the "Updates" section on the homepage. I'll get an interviews
section added at some point, and hopefully get a few more interviews to go
in it!

Enjoy :-)

Good that the book is to be available again. There's a good synopsis of each
episode, and it's unique to have a book about good old Rado. I got my copy

Dear All,

I had an email today from Mr Robert Sturman, the author of "Eldorado - A
Definitive Guide to a Year in the Sun" - the one and only book about our
wonderful show. He is planning to make the book available as a download,
for all those who have been unable to get a copy over the years.

This should be available "very soon" and a website is now up and running
which allows you to register your interest and be notified when it's
available. The address is:

I don't have any pricing details yet, but there's certainly no harm in
registering your interest at this point (and there's an "early-bird"
discount!).

bye for now!

James, with these site-updates, you are really spoiling us! Love the "moody
Fizz" pic. You can tell she used to be a moggle. Poor Kathy Pitkin, I hope she's
happy.

I don't think Abuela was likely to be in Joy's Bar when the family portrait was
taken. i think it's far more likely that she'd let herself into the apartments
at Las Terrazas (through an unlocked sliding patio door, probably), and is
running her finger across surfaces to check for dust while tutting to herself in
her inimitable, widowed, way.

Just to let you know, I've added 6 more publicity shots to the website.
They are:

. Full cast photo (colour)

. The Fernandez family (minus Abuela, whom we can only assume was in
Joy's bar at the time)

. Moody Fizz

. Happy Fizz

. Ingrid being rather athletic

. A slightly damp Pilar

Enjoy :-)

A bit of trivia you may or not be aware of...

I asked the question tonight regarding why they were repainted that colour. The
reason is that due to the weather the paint was discolouring very quickly and
had to be repainted up to twice a year. Thats why they changed it to 'sahara'.

Hi James,

I know what you mean about the wild stories, I just hope that this works -
but so far things are looking good. I knew if I put that item on ebay it
would attract 'Eldorado' fans. We have not advertised yet as we have been
making sure everything is in place and concentrating on council tenders.

Our biggest problem at the moment is the weak exchange rate and the cost of
flights, but if we can get past this recession then we have a good chance of
success.

When you visited the site did you try any food from the restaurant? If so
what did you think? It has a good reputation in the area and I have enjoyed
it whenever I have been over therebut its always good to hear other opinions
(even though it was 2 years ago).

If enough of you want to visit I am sure we can arrange something, I can say
100% that Franco would enjoy it and will try to get some of the other cast
and crew to come along.

Darren

100% that Franco would enjoy it and will try to get some of the other cast and
crew to come along.

Hi Darren,

Thanks for the prompt reply and for letting us all know what's happening.
Had I read you post back in June properly, I might have realised a little
sooner about things. I can only apologise for any negativity you might have
encountered here, but there have been lots of wild stories about the place
over the years.

Of course we understand that a reunion is subject to business commitments,
but I hope that someday we can arrange something.

It sounds to me that the complex is in great hands. Thank you - we're very
fond of the old place y'know :-)

On behalf of us all here (if I may be so bold), we wish you every success on
your venture.

Yes it is 'Eldorado'

I am Darren Moore - director of Adept Adventures.

To answer your questions James, we do not own the site, but we are in
partnership with the owner and Franco Rey is also involved.

We are planning on making several improvements, but the set will remain
intact - there are no plans to change any part of it.

Guests will stay in the villas and apartments that were used for the costume
and makeup depts and other out buildings that have all been converted.

We would welcome fans, but any reunion would have to be subject to available
dates. We could arrange a short break, but again it would depend upon
availability.

We are registered providers for the Governments 'Short breaks' and 'Aiming
high' schemes and are in talks with councils around the country so
availablity may be scarce as from the talks so far we will be fully booked
throughout school holidays and our priority is to provide holidays to the
disabled.

'Eldorado' was funded by us licence payers and it is fitting that it is
being used in this way. We have big plans to make a difference to a lot of
people (hopefully!).We are not a charity but that does not mean we are a
power hungry company either, and as such we intend to improve and give back.

I hope this answers your questions, let me know if you need any other info.

Regards

Darren

I noticed this evening an auction on eBay for holiday packages, at a resort
called "Eldorado" on the Costa del Sol. Interesting...

It IS our "Eldorado"!

"Set amongst pine trees in a peaceful setting inland from Marbella. Just a
short distance from Coin and Alhurin on the Costa Del Sol is the unique
resort named Eldorado.

The resort has risen from the ashes of the ill fated BBC soap of the same
name with film set still intact, and has finally been put to a use that the
BBC would be proud of."

I've just emailed the company involved (with many questions!) and will let
you know the result. It's great to know the place is being cared for again
- this may even help if/when we get the reunion off the ground!

Oh, all excited now!!

A reunion gets talked about every so often, and I'd certainly be interested.
Could we realistically get enough fans together to make it doable? I seem to
remember James had potential interest from Franco Rey a while back.

Nice to see a couple of messages here. i thought Los Barcos had been forgotten

Hi Coinman,

You're right, a reunion with "Eldorado" cast members would be great (and a
superb birthday surprise - wish I had a friend like you!). However it would
take a bit or organising and would need someone with contacts (which I sadly
do not have).

Daz_zer also suggested a reunion on here not that long ago and I think
anyone interested should raise their virtual hands and support him with
that. It's not impossible, but it would take some work. I'd be willing to
help out. How about we start a topic on the forum and keep the momentum
going?

Sorry Coinman, this doesn't help you and your birthday plans for your friend
- but never say never eh? As for the video, I couldn't possibly comment,
but if you want to know more then please email me via the website.

cheers!

James

Hi all,

I joined the group yesterday as I have a very good friend who is Eldorado
crazy. He is coming here to Mijas to celebrate his 70th birthday next week
(in fact his birthday is on Monday 5th. October. We have taken him to see
the site near Coin and I was wondering if some sort of reunion with cast
members could be arranged. I think it's a great idea and I can think of no
greater birthday surprise for my friend.
I managed to get the 'Adios Eldorado' VHS tape, hoping to have it converted
onto a dvd, but have been informed that it is 'copyright protected' and so
it has not been possible. Any ideas anyone?
Looking forward to some positive responses. Time is tight!

Coinman.

Love the Fernandez photo, with Abuela centre stage!

Dear all,

After a rather lengthy absence, I've finally found some time to add some
more material to the website. Have a look out for:

. Four more publicity shots (The Fernandez family, Javier & Ingrid,
The Svendsen family and the Leducs)

. Sunday Times Magazine - "The Soap that Washed Up" (1993)

. Telegraph Magazine - "The last Days of Eldorado" (1993)

. AND a rehearsal script for the first part of episode 139. Yes,
you too can act out Isabelle and Philippe fighting, or Pilar and Sergio
fighting, or even Gwen and Blair erm... fighting.

My apologies for not updating the site more often but things have been a bit
strange here. I'll try and do better from now on...

Hope you enjoy :-)
