I was checking up on a Polly Brown on YouTube when I chanced on our
Polly. If you type in Polly Perkins you should get Polly Perkins & June
Brown in `Scales Of Justice` BBC Drama from 1981. Paul.

Hi everyone

I just thought you might like to know someone is selling a copy
of 'Inside Soap' (issue 11) on ebay at the moment. I almost bid
myself but on checking my file full of Eldorado stuff I saved back
then I realised I already had it.

Although they don't mention it in the description, the magazine
includes several Eldorado articles:

'That's All Folks!' & 'Please Don't Go!' - 1 and a half pages of
articles with various photos.

'How Would You End Eldorado?' - 1 page of vox pops.

A couple of short pieces: 'Out Of Time' (interview with Hilary Crane)
& 'The Actors Strike Back'

and best of all 'Wake Up Marcus! Pilar Still Loves You!' - 1 page
interview with Sandra Sandri with photos (yum!)

Item no is 250160275074, worth checking out!

Hi all,

>>> http://www.losbarcos.org.uk/splash.htm

Well, thanks to Chris, there's now a copy of every BBC postcard on the site,
in the gallery section.

The latest caption competition is still running, and I'm just glad that some
of the cast don't see some of the entries!

I've also been approached by a magazine with a view to doing an article
about the show. More news as I get it.

bye for now!

I knew that headline would get you all excited! LOL

As the Brits on here might be aware, Justin Lee Collins does a show
on Channel 4 called Bring Back...

The premise of the shows is to reunite cast members of long forgotten
shows or maybe just from a mega popular era...

We've had Dallas, Grange Hill and a few others such as The A Team.

The thing i am proposing is that we email Channel 4 and ask them to
Bring Back Eldorado...

The jewel in our shows crown would be locating Kathy Pitkin! Imagine
all the cast reunited on the 'Rado set for a big party!

I'm sure Polly Perkins and Faith Kent would be up for it as would
many other cast members!

Does anyone else think we should get the ball rolling on this or not?

Thanks Gang!

I hate Justin Lee Collins with a passion because he's such a fake, but I'd
happily put that aside for an hour in order to watch some new Eldorado :)

Go Greig go! Do you know the address to write to? I can put it on the
front page of the website to hopefully rustle up a few more names.

Subject: a different side to Alan Yentob

Hello, everyone,

I recently leafed through a copy of "No 'S': My Life Story", the autobiography
of Wendy Richard, and as you would expect, there are numerous mentions of Julia
Smith and Tony Holland, the creators of "EastEnders" and subsequently
"Eldorado", as well as Corrinne Hollingworth, who served briefly as executive
producer of the former, and then helped turn the latter around for the better,
after its shaky start.

When mention is made of Smith's death from cancer in 1997, Richard not only
describes how extremely sad she felt, especially at the service held in honour
of her memory...she says that among the people who attended were Alan Yentob,
who paid special tribute by giving a speech full or praise for Smith. (Holland
did the same, as well). Given that Yentob made the decision to axe "Eldorado"
just as its viewing figures were increasing and it stood a chance of topping the
ratings for BBC1, and that Smith herself would say that he pulled the plug 'just
as the soap was finding its feet', isn't it at all bizarre that Yentob not only
praised Smith for her work on "EastEnders" and previous dramas, but was allowed
to attend the memorial service at all?

If anyone agrees with what I've suggested, let's hope that as and when Holland,
Hollingworth and Verity Lambert pass on, Yentob is denied permission to attend
their funeral services, as a form of retribution for what he did to "Eldorado"!

And let's not forget that when Yentob controlled BBC1, he did little to revive
"Doctor Who", apart from the Children In Need special "Dimensions In Time" (in
1993) and the Paul McGann movie - appropriate, since Lambert was its original
producer in the '60s, and Smith worked on several stories from that decade.

When I said 'appropriate' in the last paragraph, I meant 'relevant to Lambert
and Smith' - in the context of "Eldorado", the correct word would be 'ironic'.

While I am sure that Verity Lambert and John Dark (who both helped develop
"Eldorado"), Polly Perkins (a.k.a. Trish Valentine), and those who were
interviewed for BBC2's "Trouble At The Top" (in early 2002) would perhaps be
willing to give their time to take part in the proposed 'reunion' for Channel 4,
there are also many who would flatly refuse to do so, and are therefore not
worth contacting - such as Leslee Udwin (a.k.a. Joy Slater) and Framboise
Gommedy (a.k.a. Isabelle Leduc).

Am I right?

Hi Everyone,

Well, it's been a busy old time here, and I've got some wonderful updates
for you all.

1) I received a terrific email from none other than Iker Ortiz de Zarate
(formerly known as Iker Ibanez). I asked Iker if I would be able to publish
this, as an open letter to all fans and he kindly agreed. You can find
Iker's words in the "Cast" section.

2) I was approached a few months ago by "A Place in the Sun" magazine, who
wanted to run a feature on the show. This is due to be published in the
December issue, which goes on sale on the 25th October. It's a nice wee
article and well worth a read (I tried to persuade them to take out the
negaive bits!). They kindly agreed to include the website address, so
hopefully we'll get some more interest in the website/show. It also
features the most amazing aerial shot of the "Eldorado" set I've ever seen.

3) In fact, the above photograph was so amazing, I've secured rights to use
it on the website. However, because of licensing costs, I can only really
afford to use it for 3 months, so have a look while you can - it's stunning!
You can find it in the "Gallery" section.

That's all for now folks. I hope you enjoy the updates.

take care,

James

Just had a look at the photos and they just make me want the show back even
more!

The aerial view of the entire set is incredible and would make for a perfect
desktop background image. Kudos for getting the rights to show the image on

If anyones interested please let me know and I will consider all offers.

Payment welcome in US Dollars too.

If no one wants them I am going to bin them.

Thanks

Verity Lambert, Eldorado's executive producer, has died, age 71.

She made her name as the first producer of Doctor Who, and the most terrible
irony is that her death comes on Doctor Who's 44th birthday.

She was the youngest producer, and only female producer, at the BBC in 1963,
and went on to have a huge portfolio of trailblazing, groundbreaking work. She
was responsible for programmes including Widows, Minder, and the epic Alan
Bleasdale series GBH. Her final work, Love Soup, has yet to be broadcast.

I was lucky enough to meet Verity at a TV history day, last year. She was keen
to discuss all aspects of her unsurpassed career, and was especially delighted
when I lept in with a spirited defence of Eldorado.

Her death is truly terrible news.

This is very sad news indeed.

Despite having a few failures to her name (notably "Eldorado", which she
continued to defend even after its cancellation), she was awarded the OBE in
2002, and also received a lifetime achievement award from BAFTA, shortly
afterwards.

   Thank you for informing everyone.

Great shame about Verity Lambert. Good job Chris met up with her so we
know that she was still well disposed to Eldorado .Excellent obituary
in the Independent ,with a separate piece by Janet Street-Porter that
gives an insight into her as a person. Paul.

There's a brilliant obituary, plus a tribute from Janet Street-Porter,at The
Independent website.

   http://news.independent.co.uk/people/obituaries/article3196286.ece

Verity Lambert had an astounding career. Her CV is full of TV shows we are all
familiar with. It's a shame that the obits and tributes all knock The Rado, but
it's hardly surprising. Verity would not have been surprised by it. When I met
her, last year, she was delighted to hear positive comments about The Rado.

We all know that Eldorado was a groundbreaking, trailblazing soap.
Verity Lambert was a remarkable, trailblazing woman. Just read the obituaries!

Whenever I've seen him on TV he's never looked to be in good health, and
he's sadly passed away a few days after Verity Lambert.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7118974.stm

"EastEnders creator Tony Holland has died aged 67 in a London hospital after
being unwell for some time, a BBC spokeswoman has confirmed.

Holland devised the primetime soap with Julia Smith, who he met on the set
of Z Cars in 1971. His other credits include Angels, District Nurse and
Eldorado.

EastEnders was first broadcast in February 1985 and still regularly draws
audiences of up to 10 million.

Executive producer Diederick Santers described Holland as a "true genius".

"All of us at EastEnders are forever indebted to him for creating the
programme with the late Julia Smith," he said.

Tony will be remembered with great affection and respect by everyone at
EastEnders."

'Immeasurable' contribution

Alan Yentob, BBC Creative Director, said: "Tony was intimately involved in
every aspect of the show for the first four years including the classic
blockbuster Christmas episode featuring Dirty Den and Angie in 1986."

John Yorke, Controller of BBC Drama said: "Tony's contribution to popular
drama and BBC One is immeasurable.

"It's impossible to imagine the BBC without EastEnders and it will stand as
the ultimate testament to his career."

It was said Holland created half of EastEnders' original cast of characters,
with Smith coming up with the others.

The writer was also involved in casting, and approached actress Wendy
Richard to play Pauline Fowler, despite the fact she was originally thought
to be too glamorous for Albert Square.

But Richard, then best-known for playing Miss Brahms in Are You Being
Served, told Holland: "I'm sick of glamour. I want to play my age."

In 2002, Holland won a special achievement award at the British Soap Awards.

...it is most bizarre (and sad, of course) timing that Verity Lambert
and Tony Holland should die within a week of each other.

However, several weeks ago, I posted a message which quoted a passage from the
autobiography of former "EastEnders" actress Wendy Richard - in which Alan
Yentob attended the funeral of "EE" co-creator Julia Smith, and even did a
reading.

I asked if any of you thought it rich of Yentob to attend the funeral of
Smith, etc., given that he was ultimately responsible for the 'Rado being
short-lived and a huge failure, and that Smith was quoted as saying he did what
he did 'just as the soap was finding its feet' - and now regret suggesting so,
given that the lack of responses probably conveyed a negative reaction, and one
of disagreement, as well.

Plus, not only did Yentob speak highly of Holland (whose initial vision of the
'Rado was "Little England", as opposed to the multi-cultural soap it became due
to a misguided suggestion from Smith), but after reading several news articles
on the (unofficial) website for "Eldorado", have finally acknowledged that
Yentob's decision was not out of a dislike of the soap, but simply easier than
allowing it to continue when it had not yet attracted enough potential to do so,
whether in the form of its critics or the ever-increasing viewing figures.

I now see no reason why Yentob should not attend the funerals of Lambert or
Holland, and apologise to everyone here for criticising Yentob for what can only
be the wrong reasons.

As for "EastEnders" - here's to the next twenty-three years!

The saddest aspect of Holland's life after "Eldorado" is that, after its failure
and the fact that what he created differed from what he originally had in mind
(only Brits and Spaniards in the sun), Holland then turned to writing scripts
mainly for foreign-language dramas in other parts of Europe, as opposed to those
aired on the BBC or ITV.

Like Smith and Lambert, Holland will be greatly missed.

Radio 4's Last Word from 25th November, where they comment on people who
have passed away on the last week, and this piece includes interviews with
