*wry grin* Grumpy Martha might be a better description! Why is there never enough time to do everything at Christmas? I'm not annoyed by the question though :-) And I'm not ill either, honest, although that's a small miracle because I'm surrounded by people with colds all the time at work.
Anyway. Two Households 5 is progressing really well. I'm working on chapter 9 now, according to my flashcards and timetable and story plan (this is the most alarmingly over-planned story I've ever written), and given the way things have worked out as I've been writing, it looks very much as though this will be the last chapter. At the moment the whole story is just under 200 pages in Word, so it will definitely be split up into more chapters when I finally post it, but I wanted to work to my plan first and then sort out the chapters when I edit it.
I am definitely
getting close to the end now. The biggest and most important section of the plot has been written, and now it's mostly tying up loose ends. However, the way in which those loose ends are tied up is also quite important, so I'm struggling a bit with some scenes at the moment. I've found myself writing whole scenes and then cutting them out because they don't work the way I want them to, which is frustrating, but when I finally get a scene right it feels great.
So ... I suppose the question is how much longer it's going to take. I can't be sure of that. I'd like to say "a week" because ideally that's how long I think it might take me. Unfortunately, real life is very busy at the moment because of Christmas, so I'm not getting as much done as I'd like. But I aim to get the first draft finished before Christmas, not least because I have about 10 days off work over the holiday and that would be very useful
for starting the editing!
This has taken a lot longer than I wanted it to, and I'm really sorry about that. But I hope that when it's done you'll find it a satisfying conclusion to the series.
