.awwwwwwwwww. I just finished the whole series. It's soooo bittersweet.
I guess I was hoping for a happier ending.
But it's an amazing story. Way to go.
I'm glad you liked it, in spite of the ending :-)
It's a funny thing, but I had the same reaction when I wrote it - I kept thinking "This is a miserable way for it to finish!" But I tried a couple of scenarios that were more upbeat and they just didn't work. It wanted to be more sombre. And in some ways I personally think that's appropriate, because it's the end of a battle but not the end of the war - does that make sense? Voldemort is dead, but everything hasn't been miraculously put right. The things in wizard society that allowed a monster like Voldemort to happen in the first place haven't been changed - yet - and so it's still not a perfect world.
Although I didn't deliberately write it with this in mind, I would add now that Harry's ongoing illness and slow recovery are almost a
metaphor for what's happening in the wizard world. It's not right yet, but things are changing and starting to heal. It's going to take time. Just like Harry's health.
Like I said, I'm glad you liked ti :-)
Take care,
