Greetings Y'all

Has anyone done any hardware performance tests on Sun Intel X64
platforms and RMDS 6 ?

I here there are some AMD based X4150 Sunfires in the wild
but the Sunfire X4150 Dual proc is not available yet in UK

We expect the Intel version to give 10-15% more perfromance and
wondered if its worth the wait ?

Has anyone done testing on Latenecy , Multithreading, Dual vs Quad
CPU, on the differenct manufactuers ?

Look forward to any replies

Best Regards

Chris

Calling Engineering Dept's.....

Does anyone have any views on RDF Direct feed handlers and Cascading.

I hear that it may be less latent to use a cascaded source and a local
located RDF Direct Exhange to push data across WAN link
rather than have a rdf or direct exchange feee in a remote office for
a remote exchange. It seems to be due to compression on the cascaded
source and the time delay on comms between exchange and remote feed.

Wondered if anyone had done any testing on this ?

Also more interesting, has anyone tested RMDS6 to breaking point ? On
your specific setup Solaris or Linux x86 or Sparc platforms at what
update rate on your new RMDS 6 system does it start to break?

Many Thanks in advance for any replies

Chris

Hi there

unfortunately, no matter what way you look at this, you'll need
somekind of bridge or gateway to reach any remote network, and from
the sounds of it, the gateway was your link to Melbourne.

However, not fully knowing your setup, need to know if you were
running your own local RV daemon or whether you were connecting to a
RVD at the Melbourne branch.

Cheapest and quickiest solution is to try and find an alternative
TCP route to the Melbourne network and connect directly to a RVD on
the Melbourne backbone. This way you will be able to do exactly the
same monitoring, but, remember you will be relying on the remote
daemon and if that host was to die or the RVD died on that server,
then lights out, you will lose your monitoring of the other hosts.
However, if you have a local deamon for monitoring ( the ideal but
more expensive due to license issues) then you have no choice other
than re-instate the gateway or find alternative route, possibly
using RVRD, but again there maybe cost implications to that.

Good luck.

Regards

Jeff

If we're talking disparate networks here -- maybe iptables and nat ( or a twice
nat? ) could do a trick for you ?

How do the heartbeats hit the clients ? broadcast? unicast ? tcp?

We don't run a Hawk over on this side of the globe, perhaps a quick peek with
tcpdump would give a good idea of how things work out. A solution might stand
out from there.

Later,

Bryant
