Master Chassis Rolling Road Caddy.   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #13 of 74 |
Good day all,

Since owning a Masterchassis (a great peice of kit!) I have been
aware that the assembly on its MDF base is unstable with the rolling
road assemblies fitted and loco on top.

I have made a 'Rolling Road Caddy'to improve stability. The Caddy
allows the master chassis to be quickly dropped into place after the
Rolling Road Assemblies have been fitted. It also has the benefit of
having a single point power connections rather than having to rely
upon a daisy chain of wire and croc clips to pass current to the
Rolling Road Assemblies.

The Caddy is made from four pieces of MDF, a length of copper strip
(K&S) or thin PCB, wood screws and glue. Mine was made using 10mm
thick MDF, 325 x 18 30 x 300, 40 x 300 and 300 x 155. The important
dimension is the 325 x 18 piece. This piece has to be thick enough
so that when the copper strip or PCB is stuck on to the 10mm edge,
the Rolling Road end plates are in contact allowing current to flow.
A small brass screw is screwed through the copper ot PCB into the MDF
for security then soldered in place.

I have put a rudimentary drawing and some images I took while making
the protoype - hopefully that will make the idea easy to understand.

It works a treat!

Ian.
