EMI said: "His act would appear to have been an impulsive gesture
following a professionally difficult year and perhaps, a difficult
day."
EMI seem to be completely happy to imply that Matthew killed himself.
The words: 'His act' implies deliberate action, rather than accident.
They have NO RIGHT to comment, given the way they treated him.
Whatever the reason for his passing, it's nobody's business but HIS,
and they do not have the right to speculate.
He's gone, and that's all that matters. We have lost a beautiful
spirit, and no-one should speculate on why. That's entirely private,
and comments suggesting that he took his own life can do nothing but
hurt his already greiving family.
We must just accept that he is gone, no matter how, and cherish the
music he left us.
He did have great potential, and it saddens me beyond measure that he
didn't fully realise it. But nevertheless, he DID record one
FANTASTIC album, and loads of additional tunes on the flipsides of
his singles. These provided no end of inspiration for me, and many
others throughout the world.
Regardless of what the cause of his death, he inspired me, and
continues to do so, and no-one can take that away from me. For every
song that I write, Matthew's spirit lives on, because it's he who
made me pick up my guitar and start writing. Thank you Matthew. I
will cherish your memory always.
