Hi guys I have just purchased a 1999 'v' plate 626 GF (?) 2.0LXi, for
a base model it has some loverly kit (climate anyone? :) ) but its not
without its little issues, some of which i daresay are common
faults... here goes

at certain rev ranges it feels as thought the gear linkage is
vibrating against something making a very loud noise, but if i put my
hand on the gear lever and push slightly to either side it stops! also
the gearchange is very sloppy, worn linkage bushes perhaps?

if i have the a/c on, when i come to a stop the engine seems to labour
and the revs drop very low (indicated 0rpm sometimes!) but never stops
and revs nicely if i need to set off, what do you reckon, bad earth?
battery isn't too bad as it allowed be to start and stop the engine
about 15 times tonight whilst trying to sort the next problem, oh and
if i switch off the a/c it runs at 550rpm beautifully!

last of all, when i switch off the engine i get a sucking sound for
about 5 seconds that is coming through the air intake system, if i
open the throttle there is a slight pop and it stops instantly, its as
if when i turn the engine off there is a large vacuum in the manifold
and it is sucking air through the throttle body, when i open the
throttle it suc the air in all at once, creating this pop. is this
normal? if not are there any suggestions why it might be happening.

one other thing, i notice that GSi 2.0 has almost 20bhp extra, what is
different and how hard would it be to upgrade to GSi 'spec?'.

sorry for the long post but i have been trying to find a site that
deals with these cars, most seem to be american and i'm never sure if
what they are talking about applies to my car! :)

cheers

Glen
