Hello to the group. My name is John, I live in Wareham. Dorset and I have just
got myself a 1983 Mazda 626 LX.
Is there anyone else got one out there, can anyone tell me anything about this
car? Info on the web seems to be scarce unless it is the American version!
You have the GC model, and as you have an LX, it will be a 1.6L with possibly
manual windows, and no sunroof ?
My Dad used to have one of these, until I wrote it off when some young woman
drove straight into the back whilst I was stood still, waiting to turn right..
He then got a GLX, which was a 2.0L and had all the toys.. The one thing I
missed from the LX was all the switches being a fingertip away round the
instrument panel.. there were two versions of the dash switches though, and you
could have either.
There is a Haynes manual for this model I believe, which although based on the
US models, is fairly good.
This is one of the first 626 models, older ones being designated "montrose" The
advert for this being that it beat various other cars in tests.. and the
punchline, you'll be amazed at a Mazda..
Very well built, and quite expensive compared to run of the mill Cortina's,
Cavaliers, etc.
