I tested the wires to the unit..it has 4 wires..1 blk & red one which i presume is the live, 1 thinner wire which is the low fuel light (which lit the tester

You say you have replaced the sender unit this should have been on the top of the fuel tank, you will need to make sure the wiring to the sender unit is ok ie
