Could be the common problem of a small tear in the concertina rubber conduit
between the VAF sensor and the throttle body, or between the airbox and the VAF
sensor - I forget. I sold my MX-3 years ago. Any air getting in there will
upset the fuel/air control. If you find a tear, a temporary fix could be some
very sticky plastic tape, but you'll need a new tube - expect to pay over £60!
Another common problem is the igniter in the distributor (fix is a new or recon
disty, or replace the ignitor (transistor)if you are a skilled dismantler &
solderer and can get the part - don't ask Mazda - they only do whole
distributors). But this failure is usually terminal, not intermittent.
