RE: [Mazda MX3 Owners UK] Re: Some newbie questions

Ian,

You are a true gentleman, sir. I will try your suggestion this evening! Not sure
about the whistling - it just hasn't happened since my mechanic re-seated the
mounts. I'll keep it in mind should it return though.

Watch this space. Cheers,

Steve.

Hi Steve,

Good to hear the tick & whistle are gone. Was the whistle a vacuum
hose?

Your judder sounds to me like an oil leak onto the clutch disk. You
can sort of prove it as follows: Handbrake on, 3000 rpm and let the
clutch slowly out till it starts to push at the brakes. Hold it
there for 10-15 sec. - that should burn the oil off. Then try a
normal start - if its better, that'll be the problem.

I think you have to drop out the gearbox, to get at the oil seal to
replace it. If that's it, be sure to put a new clutch in.

Ian

seated all the mounts of the engine in an attempt to resolve
this 'juddering' problem I have (basically, the car doesn't pull off
smoothly - it judders. To get it to pull off smoothly I have to dip
the clutch and feather the throttle in first and second!). The car
still judders (the mechanic is going to have a word with some Mazda
people), but the 'ticking' during tick-over, and whistling are both
gone!

and when the key is in the ignition, then add the immobiliser-bleep
and it can get quite noisy! I too have a 'low oil' light - haven't
seen it in action yet though.
