I got about 33 mpg from both the X3's I owned in the past!
Could have got 40 BUT... what the heck... V6 is smooth so use it!
(Could also have got 25 but there are speed limits in this country!)

As title... what have you?
I have an 02 Rav 4 worth 3.5k.... deal? (you give me yours + the
difference... maybe only 1.5k if the X3 is GOOD!)
If not ... you can have the Rav for 3.5k anyway!

The usual start point with overheating is to replace the thermostat.
90% of the time, that is the cause.

If it turns, but doesn't kick, that sounds like immobiliser. If its the battery,
it wouldn't turn. Open the door with the key, and see if the alarm goes off. If
it does, then the alarm activated somehow.

Just got back from a couple of weeks abroad. Left My 94 MX-3 V6 at a
friends while I was away (Quiet location).
Returned this morning. Car fired up for about a second then died.
First thoughts are fuel injection relay.
Any other ideas?
I know the car has an immobiliser but it's never been used since I've
had it. Could this have activated itself? Car still turns over but
won't kick in.
Please help me out here.
Thanks
Keith

Hi Folks,
I started a new job about 25 miles (2/3 motorway) away but had the
good fortune to share the fuel costs with a friend. I was getting
about 220 (driving about 60 - 65 average)to a tank. After a few months
my friend left and I was left to cover the cost myself. I started
keeping the rpm to 3k and have managed 260 miles..! Have been taking
the mick out of him ever since about his weight.

Had this happen to me once. Turns out it was the immobiliser. I opened the car
as normal with the keyfob, got it, and it just would not fire up, just kept
turning. Had to go through a routine of opening the door with the key, trying to
start the car, then getting out and then using the fob, and then starting the
car! It was a crazy morning! Also, make sure your battery isn't dead!!

Hi Keith,

Im not saying this is definatley the problem but i had very similar symptoms
recently, My v6 has a pirahnna alarm fitted ( I dont know if this is standard
?), All i did was pull out the first circuit board in the housing and now it
works perfectly well, Unfotunatley this is also the sounder board.

Just an idea :-)

I managed to get it sorted. Tapped the fuel pump relay with a
screwdriver handle & disconnected/reconnected the ECU. Don't know which
sorted it but she's running again.
Thanksagain for responding.

Well, if the gaffer tape worked, maybe a clumsy mechanic put a
screwdriver through the new tube when he was fitting it.

Try gaffer tape again - if it works, take it back and demand a new
tube, and more care with the fitting.

I had exactley the same problem and mine was the vacuum pipe, If your not sure
which bit is, it is the large black rubber hose on top of the engine on the
right hand side.

Before you shell out £70...i would suggest you examine the corrugated part of
the pipe for splits and then wrap it up well in £2 gaffer tape...if that solves
the problem..then shell out the money on the new part :-)...thats what i did and
its running lovely now :-)

I had exactley the same problem and mine was the vacuum pipe, If your not sure
which bit is, it is the large black rubber hose on top of the engine on the
right hand side.

Before you shell out £70...i would suggest you examine the corrugated part of
the pipe for splits and then wrap it up well in £2 gaffer tape...if that solves
the problem..then shell out the money on the new part :-)...thats what i did and
its running lovely now :-)

Mazda have mentioned and idle valve at a cost of £650 just for the

Well I got a Kia Pride instead! 46 mpg and only 24k on a 'V' plate
also made 900 profit on the CS.
Hard luck and maybe next time. :)

There is a possibility that it is caused by a vacuum leak. This
often occurs in the corrugated rubber conduit (large pipe) between
the air box and the throttle body. It only takes a small hole to
cause the problem, so you may have to remove the part to examine it
closely. The replacement is nearly £70, I think.

Of course, the obvious cause needs to be checked - is the throttle
cable sticking?
