I just found this board while ordering an email card.I just love MP designs. I
just received the bookmark. My DSs GF stitches and likes the designs so I share
with her when I am finished. I actually met Michael Powell at the stitchy show
in London. He was very nice. I have stitched many of the smaller houses and Dh
surprised me with the Garden Gate one, which is an ongoing project.

We've had several new members join us this week, so welcome to all of you.  Please take a minute to say hi and tell us a bit about yourself.
Did any of you see Mike on Create and Craft on Wednesday?  There is another programme next Saturday, but Mike won't be there as he will be doing a show. He's very relieved!!  I'm busy stitching a bookmark as he needed another model for the show so once again my Tenby is on the back burner.  It was neglected for a few weeks as I was working the half done demo models for C&C.  I'm also a bit caught up with my knitting at the moment, Christmas pressies, winter woollies for the grandkids, and Barbie clothes for my grand daughter.  They are such fun to make.

Sorry to hear that - MY DH was the same - except he spent on the couch watching or listening with his eyes close one of the many sports channels - (That is cause I will not allow a TV in the bedroom! LOL!)

If it is the flu - his doctor has him now on a banana a day due to low Potassium - so if you are feeling really tired that may be the culprit.

Get well soon!

Sorry to be so slow replying Siobhan, I've had a couple of weeks in bed :(  274 is used in some of the windows, and in one roof.  234 is used in the harbour walls.

Hi Julia,

I finally started Tenby and it is going quite fast for my standard :). But I have a question. I have difficulty to locate where to stitch color 274. I have looked all over de design, but I can't find where to use is. Can you please indicate at what region it is used, so I dont mix it up with color 234.

thanks

I started mine on Saturday.  Venice is not quite finished, still half of the outlining left to do, but I am going to buy a floor stand for my big frame, so am waiting on that before I finish Venice.  At the moment it is on a 28" roller frame, which is waayy too big to wrestle without some support.  My arms are too short:)

LOL, I sometimes vary from the chart, though not necessarily by choice - it's called "mistakes"! (ok, that was the polite word for it, not what I call it at the time . . . )
I might change the amount of backstitching, small stuff like that, but so far I've not been brave enough to make any major changes.

Count me in on the tweeking! The Monopoly board that I am stitching the whole color scheme is changed. I Dyed a special piece of Aida with the a tie dyed look and the floss is from different vendors SSS, Weeks, Caron, DMC - you guess it all overdyes! A small fortune dropped on those at the speciality shop (which I think a visit is needed, LOL!) but it will be worth it when done! See the attached pics.

Since no one wants to play game boards here I am going to frame it and have it covered with plexiglass in a matted frame and this way if they get the urge - be able to take down the gameboard and play.

And and added not Julia - if not for stitching a couple of Michael's smaller charts I think I would have had as much trouble I think with the community chest but didn't envisioned the whole stitches with the backstitching of his charts and had no problem!

I've done that too!

I'm glad you are enjoying your Villages.  They are lovely aren't they!
I just spent a complete hour on your blog, and links from it.  Thank you :)  I laughed at your Totally useless SAL.  I might join you.  It's got to be a better say of containing orts than having them all over hte furniture and trailing off my clothes!

I'm currently working on two small models for Mike, Tenby for myself, and the Biggie Bicornue cushion from Tam's Creations.  Trouble is, I don't think that Tam will rcognise it by the time I have finished with it.  I changed the colours, stitched the background to match, tweaked some of the design that I didn't think worked too well, frogged it and tweaked it again.  And again.  What is it with me, I cannot leave a design alone!  Working as a designer has given me the confidence to do that, having discovered that it is all made up anyway!!

Anyone else out there?

Hi Julia,

I can't believe you spent an hour on my blog, girl you have got to join the
Totally Useless SAL if you have that much time to spare, ha ha ha ha ha.

I was going to put my photo of English Village in the photo album but the darn
uploader is messing me around again. I have never been able to get the new
uploader to accept photos from my Mac and now it's telling me the "basic
uploader" is missing altogether. Guess I'll be spending some time in the Yahoo
Help Pages. But I am going to blog this photo today, so I hope you bookmarked
my blog.

Tweaking, hmmmmmm. I have very little imagination of my own, that's why I
purchase needlework designed by others. I have a designer friend who thinks I'm
stone crazy...she can not understand wanting to stitch something someone else
designed (and I don't think she ever will). I tell her, "If I am 'unable' to
design it myself, why not?" But she just does not get it. But this means I
don't tweak designs very often. I do think when I chose how to display a
needlework design (the finish of it), that is adding my own touch to the
designer's work and I guess I'm just happy with that.

I also believe that needlework is an "art" and if I liked this piece of art
enough to buy it then I feel I should display it in it's original form. I
wouldn't retouch an original oil if I brought that home, which I do frequently,
and I do paint, but that doesn't mean I'm going to add my strokes to somebody
else's. But, on the other hand, needlework is also an expression of "my art" so
I'm not married to this 'don't tweak it' philosophy and will play with color
occasionally, but rarely with the actual design.

Mostly I just live in total awe of people like Michael Powell and Teresa
Wentzler who are able to share their wonderful imagination with a design-blind
clutz like myself.

I finished my second page of English Village 1 this morning, pictures will follow soon. I'm 1/3 done, pretty exciting for me.

Do you know if it is possible to purchase Michael Powell charts alone without
buying the whole kit? I have so many threads and loads of Aida that buying more
seems silly. However, I just love the little houses and want to get stitching
them NOW!! :)

that I just uploaded a new blog of the first half of what I did on vacation - purchase thimbles on e-bay - rearranged all my thimbles (that blog will be sometime in September) - and didn't mention sat and took a picture of each and every thimble I own-collected except for the metal ones - that I have to do a few at a time.

So I am even if DH thinks I am crazy for doing it - but some are worth money - and want to catalog it all. But one day I will have the ones that are worth a real lot of money when my ship comes in - LOL! cause the lottery hasn't! LOL!

So thanks in advance for looking and will let you know when I post my latest swaps that also came last week - and a really big swap and winning!

well on our evening news they had the consumer reporter talking about shopping a Thrift Stores and that even though they are a great bargin  - they say Credit Card users beware. They said that using your credit card in these type of stores - the credit card companies look at it as you are not having enough income coming in and maybe out of a job! Even if you are paying on time. They can use this against you and lower your credit rating.

They said they will not be able to do this when the law is in effect - but until then they say buyer be wairy!

I put a pic of my two latest finishes in my album. It is the Mini Greek Island
1, which had become a UFO. And then the bug was there and in a week time I
finished Mini Misty Hill Town. For the first time I was short in threads, never
happened before in Michael Powell kits. Fortunately they were in my Anchor
threads box, so I could finish the design without delay. I want to stich another
mini, didn't decide which one, it may be a Venice one or a Lighthouse one.
Have a nice and stitchy day!

I am here trying to keep up with all the swaps and exchanges I am doing - a very little stitching right now. Slow going on a full size monopoly board on another group.

Right now big time into making hand made cards.

DH bought me a Circit machine for my card making - was to be for my biz, but yet to make one for that! LOL! to busy swapping.

Been swapping a lot of fat quarter materials with other groups on what is called Swap-bot - what an addictive forum - neighborhood - not sure what you want to call it! A little bit of everything,

Then when not reading emails - trying to keep my yahoo group in check too!

hoping to sit down and figure out my fabbie I am going to airbrush to do some of Micheals' charts! WHEW! Out of breathe! LOL!

Well off to start and work on my next blog update and post it I hope by Saturday! Love that I can do it off line now! Come and check it out in a couple days. - pictures of momma turkeys with their little chicklets. For some reason my yard has been on their route of food finding. and a great picture of the full moon over my house the other night - love my new camera!!!! And some of the swaps I received and sent - so it will take a few days to get it all together!

Hugs! Hi Julia!!!

Hi
things seem to be a little quiet lately, is everyone on holiday?

We are back from the Otways, retrieved the 2 cats from the cattery, and I love it when they are so loving, I hope they now appreciate the good things in life.

I was hoping for wet and icky weather, but true to form it was glorious. Sunny and not at all windy. Our routine was set so that we did touristy and holdiay stuff in the morning and came back to our cottage to rest up, so I did get Tenby started, the light was so bright on our veranda, I had to move inside to work with the pale colours..... ...

Since being back home and back at work, the momentum has slipped a bit, of heck who am I kidding, it has stopped. Being deepest darkest Winter there isn't any light to work with in the evening, and artificial light doesn't work. Ask me how I know...

cheers

Bernie

Hi Everyone,

Can everyone send good vibes my way today at 11am, I'm taking part in The Race For Life in Stirling (an all woman 5K event for Cancer Research UK). I'm doing it in memory of my Dad who died 20th June 2007 of Liver Cancer, just 9 short weeks after our Mum passed away.

I am under instructions (from the hospital) not to run because my back decided to go into spasm 4 weeks ago & I'm in quite a lot of discomfort but I'm absolutely determined to do this event, no matter how long it will take me.

We haven't lived in the village for very long, there have been about a dozen sponsorship form flying around work this past couple of weeks & I only have one sister & very few family members now left but I am very proud to have raise £187 up to now. Please send your good vibes to help me make it around.

Thanks Susan, we will enjoy ourselves.

What I forget to say, I have a thumping great head cold, which I am trying to tame with every remedy known to humankind.  I hardly ever get colds or flu, and the timing of this one is absurd.
