For as long as I've been stitching, I didn't realize there were significant differences in Aida.  I don't enjoy evenweave because my vision can't handle it, and I won't use a count under 14 for the same reason.  I think I'm struggling with the current project because it is on red aida, and more difficult to see.  So I probably won't use colored fabric again.  So tell me what brands would be best for me to purchase in the aida range?  I use a lot of CharlesCraft.

Hi Julia,
Thanks for the welcome.  I thought, since there are two Sherrys, I would be happy to become SherryLee (my middle name is Lee) to minimize the confusion.

I've looked at Michael's designs, and I think the Christmas lights designs could be adapted to stockings, but I must have a Santa, and I've never seen any humans in Michael's work.  I wonder if a Santa would be as quirky as his charming buildings are?  I'd very much like to stitch the cottage gardens and especially love the secret gardens, but that will have to wait until these stockings are complete and hung by the chimney with care.  The one kit I did was #27, Farmhouses, and it turned out lovely.

I hope this is a chatty group.  Especially in the summer, when I'm off school, I enjoy time on the computer.  Can't keep up with exchanges at this time, but love visiting.
Hugs,
SherryLee

Hi Siobhan and welcome to the group. I hope you get time to start your
MP design soon. You may not have been stitching long, but you sound
well and truly hooked!

Well I have a few WIPS going, a summer bookmark echange, a wedding
photo album cover for my niece and a winter birdhouse scene.

coming up in the planning stages - a tripic of 3 primitive looking
chickens for my kitchen, Home SweetHome pic for my oldest for xmas and
probably a lot of exchange projects to fill in those empty voids.

And all this inbetween making doll clothes for the fall craft shows!

and all this between running my teenage daughter and my cleaning
business. Okay I get some sleep LOL.

How about you all what WIPS do you have going on!

Julia,
I just bought some remanaent pieces at a new needleshoppe I discovered within 1 hour of me and picked out pieces that I have never worked on before to use for exchanges mainly and I will save a small piece if possible so if I do like it I will get more of it when I return. The owner said that there is a silk counted fabric that my friend mention and she said it is very eay to work with. so that will be the next purchase.

I am going to do the chapels that Micheal has in the freebie section. They are going into a room that I remodeled in my home in January as the computer/cross stitching room! And I have 2 cabinets with drawers filled with thread in one, and fabric and kits in the other.

i want to use an antigue looking fabric for the chapels for I am a primitive country person at heart and that is how my kitchen is decorated. But any kind of country decorating is my fortay! My cross stitching room is like an English garden country look. Filled with exchange cross stitching designs, my thimble collection (313 to date) all kinds from places I or someelse vistied to anykind to antigue ones.

Thanks for the welcome and maybe in the future we can get a fabric swapping exchange. We did one in the EMS group, but we all had to hand dye our own to send to the partner and I got some nice pieces back and enjoyed doing it that now I am still ceating some pieces I send out as a bonus in some exchanges!

onto the other post! joan P in Pa

Hi Margaret and welcome to the group. Our first New Zealander!

Wow, you have got an eclectic mix of favourite designers haven't
you? I share your love of Bent Creek and LK, they both have that
quirky edge, the same as our designs. Are the Thomas Kinkade as hard
as they look? From the pictures it looks as though they will have
masses of confetti stitches. Michael's designs use lots of colour,
but mostly they are in blocks. They are my ideal stitching, lots of
work because they are completely stitched, interesting designs, but
not so impossibly hard that you can only work on them when feeling
wide awake.

Hi Lynne. Welcome to the group. Michael's stamps are lovely aren't
they? I card make but I can't stamp to save my life! I get about 1
in 5 that I am happy with, so have given that up. I do use
background stamping as that is not quite so critical. Perhaps the
enthusiastic cross stitchers in this group will fire you up to one of
our designs. If you want advice about which are easier to stitch
then give me a shout.

Hi and welcome. Do we call you citizenwifey or do you have a real

The new Venice set are stunning! I've worked my socks off this week

next week. I can't wait to see them stitched!

The button went up last week Linda.

I know what you mean about not getting things framed! As long as you
store your finished pieces rolled up, with the right side in, then
the longstitch should not get pulled.

Hello,  Im new to the group and thought I would introduce myself.

My name is Margaret, Im 42 and live in New Zealand.  I have been stitching for abouot 13 years.  I am currently stitching a few things - a  Shepherd Bush needleroll, a picture for my DH - listing where he has worked over the years - for his 14 year promotion, a picture of a pukeko (one of our native birds) and Maxs Moon.

I love the uniqueness of the Michael Powell pictures.  I have downloaded the freebies, not sure what I will do with them yet, but they will definately get stitched.  Other favourite deisgners are Bent Creek, Lizzie Kate, Thomas Kinkade and The Drawn Thread.

I look forward to getting to know the other list members.

Hi my name is Lynne and this is the first message I've ever put onto a
message board.
I maybe an imposter as I have only completed two cross stitch projects
to date but my real passion is rubber stamping and paper crafting hence
the reason for dipping in and out of Michael Powell's web site. Do any
of you do other crafts? I'm making cards and concertina style books at
the moment and also love to mosaic, especially in the garden.I'm
hopeless at drawing which is why stamping appeals to me so much.If you
stamp one of Michael Powell's designs on card and watercolour it you
can look like a genius and everyone thinks you're artistic!!

Wow I am so glad when i got this email. I only belong to one other
cross stitch group, but I think being here is going to be great fun!

Well first to start off with my name is Joan from Pennsylvania, USA.
47, married 28 years and 3 kids. Just started back into cross
stitching hot and heavy 2 years ago. but have been doing it off and
on since I was 14.

I have an addiction to cross stiching exchanges with the current
forum I belong to and hope that we can get some going here!

I have to honestly say that I haven't stitched one of Micheal's
designs yet but have the ones I want to stitched lined up and will be
getting the right fabric for them in September. Found the cutest
needle shop yesterday but did not think to take the free designs I
have been downloading with me.

I get fussier with the fabrics I chose for a design than the colors
to go with it. And this new shop I found has a great big selection of
fabrics and threads. I really would have to take a loan out for all
that I wanted LOL!

I can't wait to get to know all of or most of you and your cross
stitching obsession!

I also sew for just as long, but now I specialize in making doll
clothes for the 18" doll and incorporate the cross stitching in the
outfits if I can. I do prefer the hand stitching to the machine cross
stitching. i guess cause the jump stitches are on the back LOL
instead of the front!

Well we are all off and running
happy stitching! Joan from PA

Hi Everyone...It seems I am in good company if you all are fans of
Michael Powell's work. I have done one of his kits--farmhouses--and
want to do more, but am involved in a different stitching project at
the moment: I am cross stitching Christmas stockings for each of my
grandchildren. I thought I was about done when I began the fourth
stocking this year, but my DD is now expecting twin girls in the
fall. I am waiting for Michael to design a stocking or two to
complete this project I began so naively four years ago.

Meanwhile, let me tell you that I am Sherry (uh oh! another one!),
and I live in Washington State--completely across the country from
the other Sherry. I'm a divorced 58 year old grandma, mother of 2,
grandma to four-soon-to-be-six.

I have been cross stitching about 23 years now, and find it very
soothing. I also enjoy drawing, watercolor, reading, knit and
crochet, and writing. I've played with designing, but never really
finished more that two projects to the final stitching.

I'm excited to have found this group--from Michael's website, by the
way.

Hi Just found the group via Michael Powell's web site. I have never
joined a group before!! But I love Michaels designs and cannot stop
stitching them. Origionally I come from Cardiff in South Wales, but
now live just outside Kalamazoo Michigan. I have about 30 of Michaels
designs, as every time I go home to visit faimily I buy some. The
Street is my favourite, I have stitched it twice as gifts for family,
and the Venice windows are also great. i am looking forward toe new
Venice designs very much. As I do not have any kids I have plenty of
time for my stitching although my dog Misty also keeps me busy. It is
great to find a group of other Michael Powell fans as I have loved his
designs for years, I think I bought The Street in 2001!

Good Morning All,
My name is Sherry. I joined the group the other day but I haven't
had time to post.
As I said my name is Sherry and I am 45 years old. I live in
Rensselaer, New York but I am originally from Wichita, Kansas. I have
8 children, 6 boys and 2 girls, ages 18 months to 30 years. I have 3
granddaughters and I am expecting 3 grandsons soon. One is due any day
now and the twins are due in October.
I love to crosstitch, crochet, do paper crafts, scrapbook and
anything else creative. I have been crosstitching for 27 years and I
fell in LOVE with the charm of Michael's pieces as soon as I saw them.
I absolutely adore Michael's work. I am working on some of the
churches right now for my mom, in between crocheting baby blankets for
the new babies! I really want to make one of Michael's bigger scenes,
but I don't think I'll get a chance till after Christmas.
Okay, that's plenty about me. It's nice to meet everyone and I am
glad to be a part of this group.

Hi Julia,

Thank you for the warm welcome. It's not often I'm first at anything
so curiosity got the better of me and I have to ask - how long has
the button been on the website?

I don't know if I should admit to this here but, I didn't used to
like Michael's designs! My sister was the one who said she thought
they were nice, something different (this from someone who stitches
Heaven and Earth Designs and Teresa Wentzler's pictures). So I got
one of the magazines that had one of Michael's designs in and studied
it. From then on, they have definitely grown on me. Quirky is just
to my liking right now! Lighthouses are even more to my liking! I
love anything to do with Cornwall and the seaside in general. But I
also love Christmas and anything with lots of nice bright colours.
The only thing I'm not too sure about is the longstitch. I realise
it wouldn't look right as backstitch as it would lose some of the
impact, but I'm not good at getting things framed straight away
because of the expense. So my finished pieces tend to hang around a
bit and I'm worried the longstitch would get pulled out of place.

That said, I've still yet to stitch one. I've downloaded the free
charts from the website, but some of them aren't too clear so I'm not
sure which one will be my first MP design to get stuck into. I'm
just really drawn to the snowy/Christmassy ones! My sister likes
foreign countries and Wales so there's plenty for me to choose from
as presents for her!

My current WIPs (well the main ones anyway - I have about 30!) are
mostly small things for exchanges at EMS cross stitch board because
I'm one of the staff members there in charge of organising the
international exchanges. That's great fun! I also have my own
Yahoo! Group which started because a couple of friends and my son
wanted to do a Round Robin! It's all sort of snowballed from there
really.

I have to admit now that I don't have much patience for knitting.
Shame really. My Mum used to knit my son all his winter woollies but
since she passed away 3 years ago, he hasn't had any new ones. I
really must get the old needles out again, but I find I don't have
time to do big elaborate designs and I get bored with plain stuff. I
guess it's one of those sacrifices I'll just have to make! As it is
I already can't get enough stitching time! LOL But I don't think for
one minute that I'm the only one in that boat!

It's interesting how you got into designing. I just fiddle about
with shapes and colours more than anything. Sometimes they fall into
place and sometimes they don't. For me it's something I've always
wanted to get into, and since the blossoming of the biscornu craze in
the cross stitching world, I've found something I can do! Who knows
where it will lead?

Anyway, that's enough waffling from me. This has to be one of the
longest posts I've ever written! LOL

Thanks again for welcoming me to the group!

Best wishes,
Linda x

Hi Julia and others! I didn't even know this group existed until I
found it in a random search.

Julia, how are you? I hope you have been keeping well and that Mike
has been keeping you busy.

My name is Jen and I am a Canadian, now living on the Isle of Anglesey,
North Wales. I've been stitching for about 17 years now, the last 4
devoted almost entirely to model stitching. I've stitched for Mike as
well and it is always a treat to do a model for him.

Nice to join you.

Most people call me Julie, but that might be a bit confusing, with one
Julia already, so Juliana, strawbery or Ju will do. To tell the truth
I'll answer to any yelp because I have a 4 year old son who loves
attention.
I live in the far north of Scotland where night is never-ending in the
winter as days are in the summer. I am 33 years old, 20 of which I
have stitched and knitted in some shape or form. I don't remember when
I did my first cross stitch project but I do know my first biggie:
Jayne Netly 's tiger. I have just finished a 12 days of Christmas
(Margret Sherry) finished on time...but only just (23/12). I have been
noticing Michael Powell designs for a while now and have been falling
in love with them, especially his Spanish Village which is a reminder
of home (I am Portuguese). It will be my next project, just as soon as
I finish my scardey cat's and my sons height sampler..... so little
time and so much stitching to do....

Hi Julia,

As you know I am Mieke, I am 41 and married to Charles and living in a small zoo (two cats, an avery with 18 birds and an aquarium, all in the livingroom where we sleep too..... lol). I have been cross stitching since I was a child and I do it mostly all day long, if I am not doing my voluntary work as a moderator on a Christian messageboard (I lead the prayerforum and the ladies' section and two groups) which is a lot of work too with over 10.000 members..... but I love doing that too..... I also make a lot of 3D-cards and send those and my embroideries to people who need encouragement and also people who have something to celebrate. It is a little Ministry, well it is not that little anymore..... lol... and it is based on Christian principles..... so I am pretty busy with that too..... besides that I embroider for Solak.
Currently I am doing a bookmark, a weddingsampler for a wedding in November, and a wolf for Solak...... and about a thousand other things..... I have a waitinglist for my embroideries..... lol.... the only things that don't end up there are babythings and weddingsamplers or celebrational events....... but the rest is on the waitinglist......
Physically I am not doing well. I am bedridden, severely disabled and I am awaiting a surgery in October (galbladder removal), and with my poor health and my husbands healthproblems we spend at least a day every week in the hospital or with someone else in the healthsection........ but we survive and we still have a happy life......
Nice to be in this group..... thanks for inviting me.....

Love,
Mieke

Hi Girls and welcome to the group.  It would be nice if you could all
post just a few lines to tell us who you are.  I'm hoping that this
will be a really friendly group, so lets start as I mean to go on :)

As you have guessed, I'm Julia.  I'm 51, live in Cardiff, and have
been cross stitching for about 25 years.  Long before it was
fashionable!  I've been working with Mike for a few years now.
Before that I was selling my own designs to various magazines.  Now
that I work for Mike I don't do much of my own designing, just
special things like my kids wedding samplers.  At the moment I'm
stitching the Wedding Sampler for friends who got married a few
months ago.  Memo to self:  Finish it!!!  What are you all stitching
at the moment?  Enough rambling from me.  I look forward to reading
your introductions.

Julia
