Dear Friends,
As many of you already know, every year The Captive Animals' Protection Society (CAPS) organises Zoo Awareness Day to raise awareness of the suffering of animals in zoos. This year we are making it into a weekend so that it’s even easier for you to get involved.
This is a great opportunity for local campaigners to draw attention to the plight of animals in zoos in your area. CAPS often gains a great deal of national media coverage around this time, and your involvement can mean that thousands more people will be made more aware of how they can end animal suffering.
We would appreciate your support once more for Zoo Awareness Weekend on Sat 11th - Mon 13th April 2009.
We encourage protests outside zoos as well as information stalls, letters to newspapers etc. A range of campaign materials such as leaflets, factsheets and posters are available from us. Please order materials as far in advance as possible to ensure we can get them to you on time.
By participating in Zoo Awareness Weekend you can help educate people about the suffering of animals in zoos and bring closer the day when animals will be left where they belong - in the wild.
If your group has a website or publishes a magazine/newsletter please could you add this date to the events section. You could also add a little article to say what ZAD is all about. If you have any meetings planned please add it to the agenda to let as many people know and to give enough time for planning an demo/event.
If you are not sure where your nearest zoo is, or want any information on the zoo please contact me at the CAPS office -details below.
Our website also has extensive information about zoos generally that you can either use to ‘brush up’ your knowledge or suggest people look at for information.
Once you have confirmed the details of your protest please let me know the details - place, time, contact number etc.
As we will be so busy, we don’t usually issue the press releases for individual protests unless you specifically ask us to, but we are happy to help with this. If you are contacting local press about your demo you can also give them our phone number if they want any background info.
If you have any other queries please get in touch.
Best wishes, and thanks for your support
