Received today, thanks Dave another excellent commemorative.
For £1.30 each I would recommend these to all!

Chris,

I don't get Spaceflight any more and I didn't see your letter until I read it
off the shelf.

I am pleased they have chosen to reach out. MSS hasn't been formally approached
yet.

I don't know if BIS has started reaching out to other groups. They have a big
job; spaceflight enthusiasts not already in BIS are thin on the ground, groups
are even rarer.
Astronomy societies may include some of those people. I know spacefans who won't
go near astronomy.

Hang on lad, have bunged my Vol 51 in to binders for binding - will see sight of said passage mid-December I think...

BIS have never got in touch with York AS, we hear and get loads of post from BAA, SPA, FAS, PPARC and University's and the like but BIS have never pushed them selves. I think I have seen tables at two Autographica's in the last couple of years, but they have never been to any major astronomy society events. I guess its a touch of 'us-an-them'....

Yep, not a bad idea from time to time. Could perhaps do with a least one prior to our 20th.
We could always have a meeting at Autographica?

Hi Spacefans,

One of the members of the York AS posted the following on the YAS forum...

Hope it informs...

'Uncle' MArtin

Nasa's experiment last month to find water on the Moon was a major success, US scientists have announced. The space agency smashed a rocket and a probe into a large crater at the lunar south pole, hoping to kick up ice.
Scientists who have studied the data now say instruments trained on the impact plume saw copious quantities of water-ice and water vapour.

ANY Spaceman/woman is good in my book.
I could go to Autographica and get 5-6 autos for around 250 zobberos or one auto for 170 zobberos and I would still be happy.
Its like books or model kits, I don't buy them all at once but drip, drip, drip, I'll get them all eventually...
(ask Our Lass or Me Ol' Lady...)

But reading the comments on Autographica's forum you would think its the be-all-and-end-all getting auto's!

Last April's Autographica I only got Helen Sharman's but I made a day out of it with Our Lass. But to read what some muppits post, its as if they want 100's of guest's just for them!

I would add, yes, Tom S was dear, but Sept 2008 I got four for nowt! (Where I caught up with Rob) So really the whole collection has'nt cost me that much and as for 'fund raising'...

Thats another story belong to a Boulton Brother's film... he, he, he...

Bests

Gentlemen,

I don't know if Rob Wood looks at this forum or not? but I tend to agree with his comments in the latest issue of CapCom.
It would be nice to see some new guests and more cosmonauts (would keep Uncle Ken happy too!).
It was good to see Tom Stafford, but as he points out - at that price all I did was have a look!
The only recent highlights for me at Autographica (not counting meeting up with you boys again) was Alexei Leonov, Bruce McCandless and last but not least our very own Helen Sharman who made a very welcome appearance.

Any comments?

All,

May I draw your attention to page 474, "Spaceflight price increase". This is basically in reply to my letter on p470.

Any comments re their search for societies?
