Hi John
Most probabley just one cell on your battery pack has gone bad. Get a
multimeter and go for a run until your pack appears flat ie float stops. If
you have 12 volt batteries test each of these individually with the
multimeter. If pack is made up of 2 volt cells test each 2 volt cell
individually. You should find one battery or cell is way below the rest.
That one needs to be replaced. It can be bypassed as a temporary measure.
Fully charged a 2 volt cell should read 2.5 volts or more and when flat
about 1.7 volts. A 12 volt battery should read 12.5 to 13 volts when fully
charged and 10.5 to 11 volts when flat. Less than this and a battery has
probably gone bad or has been sucked down by the good batteries. Either way,
it is not up to par and needs replacing.
As I posted about a week ago, I have a spare 72 volt pack of 2 volt cells
which would do for replacing bad cells which anyone can have free if they
collect them. I am at Hexham in Northumberland.
All the best
Peter
