That means moderating *all* email, doesn't it? This will give someone a lot
of work if the group gets any busier, and will slow down the posting time,
especially if the moderator can't deal with them immediately.

Members-only posting is normal for groups, and most people won't be bothered
about having to join, as long as you leave messages visible to non-members.
That way, the people who post are the people who are interested in our
hobby. You can also moderate new members for the first few messages (the
first 1,2, 5, etc, it's up to you) and spammers can be weeded out before
they get a chance to post. I moderate a couple of groups this way, and it
works.

I would recommend option 2 above... if you leave it, and we get a spam
attack, we won't know until it's too late. Prevention's better than cure.
