Subject: [CrossGate] Volunteers Needed - Stargate Fan Awards

[Permission to forward]

cross-gate:

Attention Stargate fans! We are looking for hard-working, dedicated people to
join the 2008 Stargate Fan Awards team.

We have positions open for Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis fans in the
following areas in both fandoms:

* Art (icons/wallpapers/ manips/hand drawn)
* Music Videos
* Fan Fiction: gen, ship, slash (this includes all subcategories in these)
* Graphics design including Award banners
* Tech Support (html/PHP/MySQL/ general computer confidence)

If you are interested in helping us out, simply contact us at team@sg-awards.
com. We will send you an application form. This form is meant to ensure that
your interests and abilities align with our needs. We always have a lot of need,
so please don't hesitate to complete an application! And please let us know in
which of the above you are most interested in participating. You will be
involved in all aspects of the Awards but we would like to make sure we are
placing you where you most want to be :)

Applications must be returned by January 25, 2009. We will evaluate each and
every one of them and contact you regarding membership by the end of January.

Team Membership FAQs

What are team member expectations?

* It's important that team members get along well together. We often have heated
debates regarding the need for new categories or other award-related issues but
members should never take personal jabs at other members for any reason. They
must be polite to each other and never be condescending or confrontational.
Members that behave inappropriately to fellow members will be counseled and, if
necessary, asked to leave the team.

* Members are expected to be trustworthy and to keep anything discussed within
the team confidential.

* Members are expected to be dependable and reliable. Members must alert the
team whenever they have vacation plans or other conflicts that may affect the
time that they can spend on awards-related activities. We need that information
as much in advance as possible so we can adjust workload and/or find substitutes
as necessary.

What do team members do?

* We ask team members to participate in areas that interest them. If a member
doesn't like to read slash, he/she won't be placed in a slash area.

* Each member represents a particular branch of the fandom, like SG-1 slash or
SGA music videos, and is expected to keep abreast of what's going on in those
areas through live journal communities and/or Yahoo groups, bringing any issues
or changing needs to the team for discussion.

* When necessary, members discuss category changes and additions, keeping
consistent with the changes in the fandom. We strive to mimic the fandom.

* Members communicate with nominees, answering questions about the rules,
placement of nominations within categories, etc.

* Members field questions from the fandom in general.

* The largest drain on team member's time comes just prior to the voting period.
Team members may need to spend 2-4 hours per night reviewing works nominated in
their assigned areas. We are trying to streamline this process but we always
find nominations have been placed in incorrect categories or we need to contact
the author/artist with questions or issues.

* Team members help create the beautiful award banners.

* We build lasting friendships and spend a lot of time chit-chatting during our
"off" times.

Can team members nominate or vote?

* Team members can nominate stories and multimedia, following the general
nomination guidelines.

* Unfortunately, team members can not vote in the awards. They can, however,
vote for the "Team Choice" award which is our way of letting team members
participate.
