Hi all,

Just a final reminder that it's Mobile Monday Dublin tonight, and the
topic is Mobile Voice Services.

Our awesome speaker roster is confirmed as:

  - Catherine Hegarty;
the O2 Product Manager for Post-Pay Consumer Voice will cover trends
in services and usage, particularly in Ireland, from an operator's
perspective

  - Andrew Fuller;
the CTO of Dublin's VoxPilot on what's happening in the industry
regarding IVR, video IVR and standardization

  - Pat Phelan;
demo session from MAXRoam / Twitterfone / Cubic Telecom entrepreneur,
and renowned Cork blogger

Doors (and bar) at the Odessa Club, Dame Court open at 6:30pm. You'll
need to buzz and go up to the second floor. The sessions will start
promptly at 7pm, followed by food and friendly mobile networking until
they kick us out.

Again, many thanks to our sponsors Tiger Beer (for sponsoring the drink)
and dotMobi (for the food).

We have capacity for a handful more guests - if you or a colleague are
coming and have not yet let us know, please mail us this afternoon
(sept08@...), or simply leave a comment on the blog
(http://momodub.com).

(And if you previously registered and know you now can't come, please
also let me know, so I can juggle the last few places. Thanks.)

As ever, I look forward to seeing you all there!

James

Hi James

Thanks for the note! Would you be able to let me know the cost of the sponsorship please? Also, how many people attend the event?

Thanks again

Subject: [momodublin] Sponsorship opportunity for next week's event

Hi all,

Our event next Monday evening is filling up fast and looks set to be a
good one. Details & signup at http://momodub.com

We still have one sponsorship slot available. It's a great opportunity
for a local startup to get their name out into the Irish mobile space -
but larger benevolent companies also welcome :-)

It's a *very low* 4-figure-sum, at most, to cover the event's food.
Drink is already covered: Mobile Monday Dublin is purely an at-cost
venture.

If you're interested in doing something for this month's event (or the
future), please contact me directly. Many thanks.

Otherwise, see you all on Monday!

Best regards,
James

Hi all,

After our very successful Mobile Monday barbeque with the MMA in the
summer, I would like to announce that we'll be holding our next event
the evening of the 29th September.

Often neglected (although they continue to be the major economic engine
of the industry), we will be looking at Voice Services, and how they are
quietly evolving just as intriguingly as the data services that steal
all the headlines.

Our speakers include:

  Andrew Fuller
  http://voxpilot.com
CTO of Dublin's VoxPilot on what's happening in the industry regarding
IVR, video IVR and standardization

  Pat Phelan
  http://maxroam.com & http://twitterfone.com/
Demo session from Cubic Telecom entrepreneur, and renowned Cork blogger

O2 Ireland (speaker to be confirmed)
  http://o2.ie
Trends in voice services and usage, particularly in Ireland, from an
operator's perspective

As ever, we try to put on a good social event too, and we'll have plenty
of time for food and drink afterwards.

Drinks are very kindly sponsored by Tiger Beer. Food by [YOUR-NAME-HERE]
:-) ...if you would like to help with sponsorship, please feel welcome
to contact me directly. It's a very cost-effective way to promote
yourself and support the local mobile community.

Venue-wise, we liked the Odessa Club so much last time that we're there
again (it's 13 Dame Court, Dublin). Drinks from 6:30pm, presentations
start at 7:00pm sharp.

We have a reasonable cap on numbers (which we hit last time), so please
make sure you register as soon as possible to let us know you're coming.
You can register by mailing us directly at sept08@..., or by
commenting on the blog post at http://momodub.com/?p=23

Looking forward to seeing you all again there!

I can recommend Mary-rose (maryrose@...) She's a consultant so not sure what her preferences are - worth a chat though. She's very good.

Good luck - marketing people are the most difficult to find in today's market. I'm asked to recommend a marketing director at least twice a month in London. CTO's are the next most difficult to find and certainly the most expensive - more so, than a CEO depending on type of company.

Cheers
Paul

Paul,

Whatever you do, don't put too much weight on the stats from Facebook app
analytics group Adonomics (http://adonomics.com), when looking at mobile
facebook applications. Their system does not seem to register "external" or
"desktop" user interactions at all.

For example the Facebook location-based mobile application SameCell shows up
in Adonomics with 0 daily active users:
http://adonomics.com/about/5225656391

Beyond that, I haven't found any definitive source of stats on mobile usage
of social networks or dedicated social network usage. But this is a good
article to work from:

Apologies in advance if you're on the London list - as this will be a
duplicate email.

Can someone point me to resources where I can find stats on mobile
social network usage etc? For example, what percentage of Facebook
users access the site via their mobile. Future stats would be great too.

Many thanks

Hi Paul,

I'm not aware of a dedicated mobile social networking resource for stats etc..but you might start by connecting with either of these consultants.

1. Mark Brooks @ Social Networking Watch would be a good start. He's very familiar with both the mobile and online growth of these networks.

2. Christine Perey @ Perey research (she's a consultant in this space and has recently published a great report on mobile networks/communities)

hope thats useful...

Hi,

I hope someone in this group can help me out with this request...

I'm looking for a mobile developer who can help create a small mobile
app to turn your mobile phone screen into a torch - i.e. turn the
screen totally white (or any other solid colour). There's lots of java
based free examples out there, but I'm looking to have an element of
control over the look a feel of it - application logo, launch screen,
active buttons, menu etc. I'm sure most of you could do this in your
sleep, and if so - you're hired!

If you interested helping me out, please contact me at

Thanks in advance

Agenda and Timings
------------------
It's on the 30th June. The doors open at 6.00 for a 6.30pm start.

The prospective running order for the evening is:

- Eamon Hession of Púca & MMA
- Chris Handley, Head of Mobile Internet and Advertising at Vodafone
- Questions & Answers

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Hello everyone. We are very excited to announce our next event!

"Midsummer MMMMAdness" is a sunny summer's evening of mobile discussion,
conviviality and networking - not to mention barbeque - in Dublin.

Mobile Monday Dublin is teaming up with the Mobile Marketing Association here in
Ireland. ("MM-MMA-dness" - geddit?) And this, our first joint event, is set for
Monday June 30th, starting at 6:30pm.

We're holding it in the recently refurbished roof garden of the Odessa Club, 13
Dame Court, Dublin. The event is extremely kindly supported by our two sponsors,
Vodafone and Tiger Beer.

The theme of the evening will be "Mobile Advertising", and will feature brief
presentations from our guest speakers. Helping us understand this exciting
landscape (advertising, that is - not the rooftops of Temple Bar), will be Chris
Handley, Head of Mobile Internet and Advertising at Vodafone; Eamon Hession of
Púca and MMA; and James Pearce of dotMobi and Mobile Monday.

All followed by the Odessa's delicious roof-top barbeque, and the sponsors'
hospitality!

Entry is free, and the evening is set to be a highly lively and informative one.
So places are strictly limited to the first 100 to register. To ensure your
place, please leave a comment with your name at

http://www.momodublin.com/midsummer-mmmmadness

or email us at midsummer.mmmmadness@...

See you there!

How does a customer relationship management (CRM) software package gain efficient data management and SD card support for its mobile product targeting Java ME-based BlackBerry devices?

Maximizer Software, a CRM vendor in British Columbia, Canada, announced a new relationship with database developer McObject to achieve that goal.

Maximizer will integrate McObject's Perst™ Lite open source, object-oriented embedded database into its mobile CRM software for BlackBerry smartphones. Perst Lite, through its support for Sun's JSR 75 specification, will enable CRM data to be stored on flash memory-based Secure Digital (SD) cards to extend storage capacity while on the road – making it possible to access more customer information in real-time, instead of relying on networks to download new data to the device.

Users will be able to access more records locally in order to retrieve and update leads, opportunities and customer service cases, customer notes and schedules, in order to stay productive and reduce downtime in the field.

For more information, see today's post on the 'Perst Blog'.

If you're developing applications for Java-ME (J2ME)-based mobile devices, and writing your own data management code, you should check out the Perst Lite open source, object-oriented embedded database from McObject (www.mcobject.com)..

Perst Lite was featured recently in Terrence Barr's Blog on the Java.Net Mobile & Embedded Community, and has been featured in articles like this one  and this one  on Embedded.com. Since coding a database management system from scratch is no easy job, it makes sense to look at Perst Lite before you "re-invent the wheel" of database capabilities for your next Java ME software project.

You can freely download  complete Perst and Perst Lite package. Complete documentation is available here (scroll down).

Early this week, McObject announced an upgrade  of the Perst and Perst Lite embedded database systems. Improvements in Perst Lite include the following:

  • Powerful on-the-fly compression in Perst Lite 3.0 that reduces stored data’s size by three to five times, on average, reducing the database system’s already-small footprint;
  • Improvements in Perst’s documentation, with a concise new 38-page Tutorial and Introduction that guides users through the embedded database’s features and design principles, with sections ranging from the basics – such as creating, opening and storing objects in a database – to advanced topics including schema evolution and database replication.
Feel free to send me an e-mail if you have any questions!

Ted Kenney

Hi,

We've got an opening (probably from July 08) for a number of Symbian
developers to work on a Symbian client that is part of a bigger
solution we are working on.

Anybody interested in freelance or permanent Symbian work (Dublin or
remote) please contact me off list with a CV for more details.

Thanks,
Paschal.
