I do hope nobody has overlooked the fact that Rumberos de Cuba are
appearing at the Phoenix in Exeter on Saturday 12th July as part of the
Respect World Music Extravaganza. This is a rare chance to see Cubans
(on tour from Cuba) performing traditional Cuban rumba, with song,
dance and drumming. This is their first ever UK tour. The true roots of
salsa and NOT to be missed!

You will also be able to catch me spinning some Latin tunes, probably
in the outside area.

STREET SALSA/RUEDA/RESPECT
Starting with something different, White Stuff in Gandy Street Exeter are
sponsoring a
Street Fiesta this Saturday 12th. We will be "salsa busking" outside their store
between
12.00 and 3pm. So come join us for al fresco dancing and spontaneous "ruedas" at
this
free event.
Round the corner at our Exeter Phoenix HQ it's Respect Festival where there are
also lots

MONTHLY RUEDA
This months session is on Thursday 17th July at Exeter Phoenix starting at 9pm
for an
hour followed by freestyle until 11pm.
Monthly Sunday Rueda at Ashburton will return in the autumn.

SALSA PARTY TIME
Our annual Summer Party is on Tueday 29th July 8.00-midnight in The Auditorium
at
Exeter Phoenix.
We've lost count but this is the 7th or 8th year. There's something special
about having a
full on dance night on a week night, past events have always been really well
supported by
dancers from all over the region The venue is air-conditioned with a great dance
floor and
has a cafe/bar with an outside terrace, ideal if you fancy meeting up for a bite
to eat
before hand. No booking just turn up.

A Great Big THANK YOU to all those attending the last Moose Night.
Everyone I spoke to thought it was a Great Venue! Plenty of space to
dance, terrific views out of the panoramic windows overlooking the
Famous Exeter Chiefs Rugby Pitch ( I know one person at least who went
down onto the grass and had a little dance on her own there....)Smokers
could just sit outside on the terrace enjoying the view, but not
totally divorced from the party. Access to the M5 was a moment away,
and it was a joy to park outside and not worry about meters or being
locked out.
I confess it was a gamble - the cost to hire this venue was never an
issue - but to cancel a Moose Night was unthinkable.I knew it was a 1st
Class place, and the staff could not have been more welcoming
( although they didn't know quite what to expect as it was the first
time they had seen anything like this!)

The floor was laminate and it was not until it polished up with dancing
did it begin to behave. The room itself was tricky to set up, but in
the end people simply sorted themselves out and it was fine.
There were some comments on the music by Ian and others - see Salsa
Kernow for more details, and as Promoter I delegate this task to my
DJ's with their talents and skills to keep the floor alive and filled.
Guest DJ Franco is undoubtedly very talented and out on his own - and
you can see more from him on 12th July in Exeter at Kallendar Hall.
The most popular question was "When are we coming here again?" which I
think says it all for most people. However, for the moment at least,
Moose Hall is the home of Moose Salsa, and we shall return there for
July 26th Dance Night. BUT ...... I am toying with the idea of using
this most excellent venue for the Salsa Summer Salstice Party next
year.... Watch this space!
In all, I think everyone seemed to enjoy the occasion, and I look
forward to seeing you all again at the next event.

Regarding the review on the drumming session of one of the DJs at the
Moose last Saturday, I have to express my disagreement with the
comments on Salsa Kernow web site. Maybe they are not familiar with
Salsa Timbales: the guy was simply great and he took care to divert the
speakers to balance the sound. It was great to dance to: it put such a
vibe on you and you could dance to a whole new set of rhythm... not
just 1, 2, 3... It was not challenging, but motivating and inspiring
great moves. Improvisation it was, but when it is so competently
delivered by two experienced percussionists, it adds a quality touch to
a party. Restrained he was too, since he played along three tracks.
Rodney to me is indeed the perfect host and I hope he will continue
undeterred to be the "Mecenate" of new talent... that is what makes him
and his events memorable. Anyway, I did not hear anybody complaining
and the public grump was a bit unfair.

Nice to hear from you - hope all is well.
This was the 3rd time I promoted an evening here and we are
attracting 55-60 dancers. Unfortunately the management can't give us
a regular date - the next is August - BUT watch this space!!!!! I
have more plans.......
