Guapo tomorrow + Matt Elliot, Acid Mothers Temple and more gigs comi   Message List

Nothing like a Guapo gig to bring us back to life...
and it's tomorrow already...

mrw44 presents:

GUAPO + Alleschwindel + someyoungpedro + the Gods of Future Mythology
Tuesday 19th April at the Subway, 69 the Cowgate, Edinburgh
doors 7.30pm, £5 on the door / £4 for mailing-list members
this gig will go on slightly longer than the usual Subway gigs, with
Guapo onstage at 11pm.

Guapo's new album "Black Oni" is out on on Mike Patton's label IPECAC
RECORDS. With this, their sixth album, Guapo have conjured a
harrowingly complex and unflinchingly epic piece of work. Heady and
hypnotic, driving and relentless, tumultuous and visceral, sonic and
serene, the sheer odyssey that is Black Oni encompasses many
paradoxes in its massively dynamic scope. Picking up where they left
off from their previous Cuneiform Records release Five Suns, the band
continue to expand on their palette of dexterous chamber-rock
anomalies, modal transcendence, and apocalyptic death marches, and
like it's predecessor, Black Oni is one singular piece of music,
making it the second record in a trilogy of large-scale symphonic
forms. Incorporating elements of prog, avant-garde jazz, kraut-rock,
minimalism and a range of folk mediums from Britain to Indonesia,
Guapo take their queue from a disparate array of influences including
Magma, King Crimson, Boredoms, Goblin, Sun Ra, Charlemagne Palestine,
Univers Zero, This Heat, Olivier Messiaen and Popol Vuh. The assembly
of Dave Smith's explosive drum assaults, Matt Thompson's brazen and
prowling bass throb, and Daniel O'Sullivan's ethereal keyboard
reveries telepathically collide in an augury of rich and cinematic
musical ceremony.

Also a few more gigs coming up:

Mon 23rd May at the Subway:
CERBERUS SHOAL + more tbc

Sun 29th May upstairs at Studio 24 (please note change of venue):
MATT ELLIOT (Third Eye Foundation) + Many Fingers + Thee Standed
Horse + more tbc

Sun 5th June at the Glasgow Barfly:
ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE COSMIC INFERNO
No Edinburgh date this time I'm afraid, BUT we have a limited number
of cheap tickets (£5 instead of £8/£9) for mailing-list members.
Priority will be given to people coming along to the Guapo gig -
please mention you're on the mailing-list when you come in and quote
the email address you used when subscribing so we can check; the Acid
Mothers Temple tickets are not printed yet, but we'll just reserve
one for you and you can then pay for it whenever convenient.
If you are not coming to the Guapo gig but would like a ticket
reserved, please email me at mrw44contact-members@... but I'll
warn you you'd better have some f**king good excuse for not being at
the Guapo gig ;)

I am also still taking bookings for the Subway (please get in touch
with me if you wish to play or promote a night there, all it costs is
£50 for the soundman), I'll just add the current listings here, some
of them might be of interest to you; more info will come with the
next mail-out... AXIS gigs are also promoted by myself, so you will
usually get a discount on these as well.
