Reply | Forward Message #44 of 71 |
It's all getting really busy again, too busy in fact, but it's all
good... I'll concentrate on what's going on Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday, but there's more to come after that... including Neptune,
Jessica Rylan and Talibam! for Halloween on Tue 31st October,
Manatees on Tue 7th November, I Had an Inkling and Serfs on Thu 23rd
November, and more... but we'll post about that next week, one thing
at a time...

Hope to see you at one of those... Tuesday 24th in particular should
be immense...

Claire

THE HUB:

The Hub are a New York based drums / bass / sax jazz-metal trio
formed in Brooklyn in 1998, they are friends and touring partners of
Zu and Lightning Bolt amongst others.

"Manically exhilarating, gripping in its precision and energy, best
described as free jazz meets death metal inside the blades of a
combine harvester"
- John Fordham, The Guardian

Constellation Records double-bill with HRSTA and CARLA BOZULICH
plus solo drum set from CHRIS CORSANO + support from GASGIANT
Tue 24th October at Henry's Cellar Bar, 8 Morrison Street
8pm, £7.50 in adv. / £9 on the door
Tickets from Ticketweb, Ripping Records, Tickets Scotland, and
Avalanche on West Nicolson Street (no booking fee there if you pay
cash).

CARLA BOZULICH (Los Angeles, US) is best known as the singer from
Geraldine Fibbers and as the woman who re-made Willie Nelson's "red
headed stranger" - with Willie Nelson as a special guest. Carla has
on of the most unique voices in any genre. Her work is at once
brutally raw and weirdly visionary. Carla's new album is a
devastating, elegiac, brutally honest song cycle that finds her
voice unleashed with uprecedented emotive depth and determination. A
heartrending, gutwrench of an album, where isolation and desperation
are redeemed by incantatory sonics and out-reaching , soul-saving
lyrics. It was recorded with chums from Godspeed! You Black Emperor,
A Silver Mount Zion, Black Ox Orkestar, Gowns, Mae-Shi, The Night
Porter and Secret Chiefs.

HRSTA (Montreal, Canada) is the brainchild of Mike Moya, one of the
founding members of Godspeed you! black emperor and involves members
of A Silver Mt. Zion, Sackville, Hangedup, Jackie-o-Motherfucker,
Set Fire To Flames… Hrsta harnesses traditional and otherworldly
sound as Moya sings lyrics cribbed from lost faerie tales in a voice
that recalls a more blissed-out Daniel Johnson or a less blissed-out
Wayne Coyne.

CHRIS CORSANO (Massachussetts, USA):
Solo percussion from this inventive drumming genius who has also
played with people such as Paul Flaherty, Thurston Moore, Jessica
Rylan, Jim O'Rourke, Mick Flower, Jandek, Six Organs of Admittance,
Evan Parker, Sunburned Hand Of Man, Wally Shoup, Keiji Haino,
Vampire Belt, Heather Leigh Murray.

"drummer Chris Corsano, a young free player who already looks like
becoming the most significant and syntactically advanced
percussionist to come out of the free rock/jazz nexus. His playing
is so exuberant and explosively alive that it transcends any kind of
responsive playing, inhabiting instead a sublime zone where pure
energy spontaneously gives birth to form." - David Keenan, The Wire
