For those who get to read this in time, why don't you join Nora,
myself and much of the usual crew tonight in our last minute rescue
of Henry's Hogmanay celebrations...
Don't have much time, but I'll paste details below, and maybe see
you there???
Claire
"Yes, we're open from 10pm till very late and we're giving power to
the people!
We will give a few bands the opportunity to play short sets if they
want, no more than 3-4 songs each, and ask them to ideally include a
cover of a famous (and preferably entertaining) song. So please send
us an email if you're up for it (henrysvenue at googlemail.com ONLY,
even if you normally use a differrent address to get in touch with
us, we will check that address regularly tomorrow up till 7pm, and
please no phone calls!) and we'll get back to you with confirmation
and details (please include a phone number so we can get in touch if
you ain't gonna be checking your messages again). Or you can just
turn up on the night and we'll see, but can't completely guarantee
you a slot if you haven't been in touch beforehand.
We'll provide backline (please don't bring your own as there won't
be much time for changeovers, and not much space to store it either)
and instruments if needed (just bring you own sticks, also spare
strings might be useful if you have any just in case), and you
should be prepared to jump onstage and play without a proper
soundcheck, so we can't really accommodate bands with a complicated
set-up, sorry...
Later on, if enough people are up for it, we're hoping this will
turn into a huge jam session, or, even better, a full band karaoke:
we'll welcome anyone who is confident (or drunk) enough to come
forward, grab a bass, a guitar, a mic or sit behind the drums and
start playing (murdering) rock and cheese classics.
Anyone up for playing the Final Countdown just before the bells???
Also, if there's anything you'd like to hear, we encourage members
of the audience to bring a CD along and ask the dj to play their
favourite song (no self-promotion please, try and choose things that
other people are likely to know and enjoy and maybe dance to).
Anyway, as I said, power to the people, and hope you can join us...
Any questions, suggestions, etc, please use the address above...
Oh and how much does it cost to get in? As little as £4 if you've
got the exact change or a fiver, or £5 if you pay with a tenner or
twenty quid note (or £50 if all you have is a £50 note!). We just
like people with the right change, makes our life easier... Or even
free entry if you're one of the bands who've arranged to play a few
songs."
