Reply | Forward Message #55 of 71 |
A quick message from a weird computer, two gigs not to be missed this
weekend, and some special offers.

Saturday 9th June, at the Bongo Club, 7pm - 10pm
FAUST + MICHAEL FLOWER & CHRIS CORSANO

Tickets are still available for this from the usual places, and
mailing-list members can get them for £10 each directly from us,
please email me at axis@... if you want tickets reserved or
come along to tomorrow's gig at Henry's to get them...

Cos tomorrow is the other BIG gig of the weekend, or should I say of
the year, with my favourite singer in the world, favourite bassist /
guitarist in the world and favourite drummer in the world all together
on the same bill...

mrw44 presents -

CARLA BOZULICH + RASHOMON + CARLA BOZULICH & CHRIS CORSANO DUO

Fri 8th June at Henry's, doors 8pm, £5 on the door OR £3 only if you
have a valid ticket or reservation for FAUST at the Bongo Club the
following day (if you haven't got one yet, as I said above you can get
tickets directly from us at Henry's tomorrow night, and at a reduced
price!).

After the show on Friday 8th June you can also stay for the rest of
the night at Henry's and watch the following bands between midnight
and 3am: The Nukes, Sara and The Snakes, Beltane Drummers

CARLA BOZULICH is best known as the singer from LA-based band
Geraldine Fibbers and as the woman who re-made Willie Nelson's "Red
Headed Stranger" - with Willie Nelson as a special guest.

Carla has one of the most unique voices in any genre. Her work is at
once brutally raw and weirdly visionary. Her latest album
"Evangelista" was recorded with chums from Godspeed! You Black
Emperor, A Silver Mount Zion, Black Ox Orkestar, Gowns, The Mae-Shi,
The Night Porter and Secret Chiefs and came out on Constellation
Records in 2006. It has been described as "an evisceration of still
sparking, tangled nerve ends and emotions" (The Wire).

RASHOMON is the new solo project of ex-Guapo bassist and founder
member Matt Thompson.

Forthcoming album "The Ruined Map : Film Music Volume 1", which he
recorded using a multitude of instruments (organ, bass, harmonium,
guitar, minimoog, mellotron, zither, percussion, bowed psaltery,
fender rhodes, voice), is a bewildering mix of prog rock, electronic
noise, waltzes, East European folk, trad metal, drones, psych rock and
free jazz, similar in intention to soundtrack visionaries such as Toru
Takemitsu and Ennio Morricone.

His live set revolves around solo guitar and guitar loops, variously
reminiscent of the works of Loren Connors, Popol Vuh, Keiji Haino or
Tutuzi Akiyama.

CARLA BOZULICH & CHRIS CORSANO duo
When drumming genius Chris Corsano joins Carla Bozulich onstage you
can expect anything! Loose-limbed, intense, even melodic, Chris
Corsano exposes the audience to sounds and rhythms that defy
normality. A kinetic show of eye-popping quality that features Chris's
unsurpassable free-form drumming, hand built wind instruments,
semi-composed sections, heavy keyboard moments and beautifully quiet
near-silences. Dramatic and considered…this is a border-crossing
display of musicality.

Recently Chris has collaborated with many other musicians such as
Keiji Haino, Paul Flaherty, Michael Flower (Vibracathedral Orchestra),
John Olston (Wolf Eyes), Comets On Fire, Sunburned Hand Of The Man and
Kim Gordon.
