COCKENZIE & PORT SETON AMATEUR RADIO CLUB (CPSARC)

AMATEUR LICENCE TRAINING

Information:

The club has been delivering Amateur Radio Licence training since March 1995 when it started teaching the Novice Licence Courses. In 2002 the licensing structure was changed to its present format of three licences: Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced, with each licence having to be passed before proceeding to the next level. When this change took place the club started teaching the Foundation Licence before adding the Intermediate Level in 2004, lastly from the autumn of 2006 the last of the Amateur Radio Licence's, the Advanced Licence course was added, although previous to that date we offered the service of invigilating the RAE and Advanced exams where students had self-studied. This facility is still available.

Training Courses:

The club's training year runs between approximately August/September to March/April depending on demand for courses, basically over an eight month period. Between May and August those involved take a well earned rest to spend time with their families, have holidays plus get involved in other club activities like running special events and contesting, etc.

The setting up of the actual courses depends on the requested demands for a particular course; this has now become more flexible since both the Foundation and Intermediate Licence exams are now on demand. The Advanced Licence exam has particular dates set for the exams so courses will be set around the actual examination dates. For all the training courses we will book the venue, administer the examination paperwork and invigilate the exam.

All courses are run on Saturdays between 09:30 start and 16:00 for the duration of the course.

                Foundation Course                              2 consecutive Saturdays

                Intermediate Course                          5 consecutive Saturdays

                Advanced Course                                 7 consecutive Saturdays

Training Courses Available – to Spring 2012

If you are interested or you know of anyone who is interested in the following courses can you contact me and also get them to contact me so I can get everyone registered, etc……
There is a fair amount of paperwork involved so the earlier I am contacted the better, plus fees paid allows me to purchase all the course material and confirm room bookings for the courses.

Note: Fees could change if RSGB Exam Fees or Community Centre Fees are raised.

Thanks in advance

Bob GM4UYZ

The following antennas are available:-

Diamond V-2000 - £145

Watson W-2000 - £90

Although the build standard of Diamond antennas is generally better, given the price differential (over 50%!) we should go for the Watson W-2000. Both these antennas are terminated with SO-239 connectors.

Issy has volunteered to collect the antenna from JayCee Electronics. We should have it for installation on Tuesday 21 June 2011. The connectors on the RG-213 patch lead need to be re-terminated (PL-259 and N(f)). I will bring self amalgamating tape to seal the antenna join and the RF connections. Hopefully the weather on Tuesday will allow us to get the work done.

The installation manual for the Jaybeam TB3 antenna is archived at 'Files/Club Station'

We are emailing as many radio societies as we can find contact details

for to ask for your help. We would like to continue spreading the word

about Power Line Technology, its lack of EMC compliance, and how it is

destroying the radio spectrum. From feedback on other forums, it would

appear many Radio Amateurs, Shortwave radio listeners and Citizens'

Band radio users are still unaware of the dangers PLT posses to their

enjoyment.

We would like to ask you to present the details of the Ban PLT website

(http://www.ban-plt.co.uk/) to your members and link to the site on

your club's website. You can find banners and links for Ban PLT on our

banners page (http://www.ban-plt.co.uk/banners.php) In return, if you

email us with details of your club banner(s), we will add a link back

to your club in our supporters section.

We have not been able to reach out to every club due to a lack of

information on the RSGB's website. If you have contacts in other

clubs, please forward this email on to them.

Thank you for your support.
