A report about CBNSC will be included in the BBC 2 (Scotland)
programme, "The Adventure Show" on Sunday 22nd February from 6.05 to
7.05pm. The short report will focus on the training of junior
biathletes at the Club and include interviews and film of the
youngsters in training at the purpose-built rollerski track and
Biathlon shooting range at Glenmore Lodge near Aviemore. The track has
been home to CBNSC since our foundation in 2004 along with the
surrounding forest tracks and roads.

I saw this news item today where the Forestry Commission are warning
cross-country skiers to stay away from forests because the snow may
cause trees to fall.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/north_east/7876527.stm

The nature of our sport means we head into the forests when there is
snow. I hope they are not saying we can only go into forests when there
is no snow! Please take heed of the warnings, but really! it is bit
like saying don't drive a car because you may have an accident.

Please reply to this thread if you encounter restrictions or have any
problems accessing forests.

The World Juniors came to a close today with the relays & what
tremendously successful championships they have been for the British
Squad. Andrew Musgrave followed up his 12th place in the 20km
Pursuit with an even more impressive 9th in the 10km FT yesterday -
the best ever result by a Brit at the World Juniors.

And finally Iain Ballentine has a very interesting write up about

There is a proposal by the Scottish Government to lease up to 25% of
the Forestry Commission forest land in Scotland. I have been asked to
give you this link to a petition against this proposal:

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/saveourforests/

There are links at this site giving more information about the topic.

I make no comment whether this is a good or bad idea but just wish to
bring to the members of this group so you can make up your own minds.
As skiers use Forestry Commission land I think it is of legitimate
interest.

For Sale - Swix Star CT1 (Silver) Poles (Lengths Suitable For Classic
& Skating)

I have two pairs of top Swix poles for sale, either sold individually
or together:

Swix Star CT1 (Silver) cross-country ski poles. Top Swix poles from
2002-5. Two lengths are available: 150cm and 162.5cm. These poles are
100% carbon fibre, and approx. 160g/m. They have cork grips with an
adjustable strap system and small snow baskets. Both sets of poles
are in excellent condition, and it would be great for someone in the
club to have them.

Will sell pairs individually or both together (£60 each, £110
together).

Bought in 2005 in Austria, these poles cost £150 each.

Please telephone Heathley on 07973 855461 for more information and to
collect/arrange delivery.

Many thanks,

competitors this was the best attended event of the Series.

I have posted the Final Series Standings in the files section. 194
skiers have taken part in one or more races with an average of 40
competitors for each event. The Senior Mens competition was not
decided until the final race and the U14 Boys event was particularly
competitive. In summary the Series winners were:

Senior Men: Mike Dixon (CBNSC)
Senior Ladies: Fiona Crossley (CBNSC) - for the 4th consectutive year.
U18 Men: Cameron Dudgeon (CBNSC)
U18 Ladies: Katy Homyer (Highland Nordic SC)
U14 Boys: Jamie Homyer (Highland Nordic SC). Jamie tied with Jaeger
Lamont (CBNSC) on points but wins the Series because he had 2 1st's,
3 2nd's & 1 3rd compared to Jaeger's 2 1st's, 3 2nd's & 1 4th placing.
U14 Girls: Catriona Dudgeon (CBNSC).

I welcome any suggestions/comments on the Series this year.

I would to thank Claire, Jim & Rupert for posting the links & info
on the exploits of the GB Junior Squad in Europe over the last few
weeks.

The results from the younger juniors at the Austrian Champs were
amazing. It is not often that a "no-snow" can go & take medals from
a ski nation.

Then this past week 8 British juniors have been competing at the
World Junior Championships in Malles, Italy. These athletes have had
to cope with delay & change of venue & then the unexpected problem
of coping with skiing at altitude. The standard of competition is
very high for example Theresa Johaug bronze medal winner from last
years senior World Champs was racing. We should be proud of the way
our young skiers have risen to the challenge. And most will have
have a couple more years in the junior category.

When Head Coach, Roy Young, gets home he will update his website
with a summary of results of all British skiers in international
races which save you the trouble of hunted around the internet:
