Subject: Take Action - Help Save Scottish Seas

Dear all

YOUR CHANCE TO HELP SAVE SCOTTISH SEAS

Over the last four years, MCS has been campaigning for a Scottish Marine Bill, and has been chairing a joint campaign for a Scottish Marine Bill over the last year. As you may have read in the papers or heard on the radio in Monday, I am delighted to say the consultation on a Bill has been launched by the Scottish Government, closing date 4th October 2008. Please see our joint email below and add your voice in reply to the consultation to the First Minister. This is YOUR chance to help make sure the marine environment is at the heart of this important legislation.

Please forward this email far and wide to friends and families. If you would like to be removed from this emailing list, please also let me know.

Best wishes

Calum

Support a strong Scottish Marine Bill with the environment at its heart.

HELP SAVE SCOTTISH SEAS!

Help us convince the Scottish Government to deliver effective protection for our seas and wildlife through the new Scottish Marine Bill.

The UK Government in Westminster has already published its draft Marine Bill. The Scottish Government is now consulting on its plans for a Scottish Marine Bill – covering those areas and activities within its responsibility.

This is your opportunity to make your voice heard and ask for a Bill that provides the essential protection that Scotland’s seas need.

Scotland has the longest and most diverse coastline in the UK. Our seas are home to half of Scotland’s wildlife. Yet less than 1% of Scotland’s seas are even recognised as important for marine species and habitats. Without better protection, we risk losing critical marine habitats and in turn the wildlife dependent on them.

That’s why we have joined forces, as part of Scottish Environment LINK – the umbrella group for Scotland’s environment charities – to campaign for an effective Scottish Marine Bill that will really make a difference for marine wildlife and the communities that depend on it.

Please take action by emailing Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond MSP today!
