Scotland did very well at the DOC awards this year:
Jacob Thastrup (Tayside Area Coach, North Scotland) won the The Collins and Chambers Award, trophy awarded annually for candidate who is judged to have had the most meritorious performance in a BSAC Open Water Instructor examination
Dave Sydenham (previous North Scotland regional Coach, now North Scotland Regional Mentour) won TWO awards, The Weezle Award (I think its called) awarded annually for the candidate who is judge to have the most meritorious performance in a BSAC National instructor Exam AND The Wilkinson Sword Trophy, an engraved sword mounted on a wooden stand, awarded annually by the NDC to the candidate who is judged to have had the most meritorious performance in a BSAC National Instructor or First Class Diver examination (photo of Dave and Sword hopfully will be on regionl website soon)
Jeff Hyde (National Instructor, EUSAC) won the ScubaPro Award (again guess at its name, previously the The Jacques Cousteau Award) awarded annually to a BSAC member judged to have done most to further the aims and objects of the British Sub Aqua Club.
Malcolm Gauld (Aberdeen Area Coach, North Scotland) got a commended mention in the incident reports talk for using his broken nose on a Boat Handling SDC as a teaching opportunity!
I hope this will inspire everyone to keep doing their best as instructors and students as clearly Scotland makes exceptional divers with its exceptional instructor and that this reminds everyone to giving back some of their time to the BSAC in thanks for all the hard work every BSAC member puts into our Club.
Well done to Jacob, Dave, Jeff and of course Malcolm!
