Hi,
I am new to the forum. As a member of APDUK, and a parent of a son
with suspected APD who is very bright and an older daughter who is
also bright,I have found very little help in the UK for those parents
and carers who are in the same position. Dual exceptionalities, as it
is termed, is a very difficult issue to deal with and almost
impossible to get diagnosed, as the learning difficulties are often
masked by the brightness and vice versa, and schools tend to deal
with the one factor that causes the most problems instead of dealing
with both. As a result, I recently started a forum providing support
and useful links and articles on related topics, PARENTS OF THE
BRIGHT AND GIFTED. I also set up an anti-bullying website after my
son, my friends and their children with special needs suffered
bullying at school and bullying in the workplace, providing advice on
how to tackle these problems and a creating a support network in the
UK, US, Australia and New Zealand, ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL. Links
to these sites are in the bookmark section if anyone should need them.
I can empathise with you. It took me 2 yr to get my child's
difficulties recognised, they must have been obviously apparent to
his school. BUT, if they display statements like this, no wonder the
kids don't get support. Please ask others to complain and ask for its
removal. Thanks for your support.
By the way, have you ever had access to a list of 'Named persons'now
known as IPS independant parental supporters? These are trained
volunteers who can help parents in meetings and Statutory
Assessment/Statements. Which educational area dop you come under?

Hi Chez,
Thats disgusting, I have the page up and what a laugh.
Considering my daughter has co-ordination problems, the only help she
now gets in school is from the occupational therapist.
According to the special needs medical teacher that is the only help
my daughter now needs in school.
It pees me off.
Hugs
Lynette

I was amazzzzzed to find that NYCC PARENT PARTNERSHIP page for parent
pupil services actually makes a statement that they do not include
support for mild dyspraxia and co-ordination difficulties!
I am urging parents or anyone who has this condition to visit this
site www.northyorks.gov.uk/pps/sensory/physical.shtm at the bottom of
this page you will find a complaints section. Please take some time
to respond to this. It sounds discriminating to me to name a specific
condition, especially since my child is affected by the condition in
EDUCATION.
