Hi Chez,
Sorry I havent been around for a
while but I have lots of studing to do at the moment
for my job, promotion and all that, so after studing
I have been feeling pretty shattered and have
limited myself to not doing much on-line.
Also a
friend and I started a support group up over at egroups
on the 14 Jan and we now have 10 members from around
the world, so I have just sent aload of emails
welcoming them to the group.

The link sounds really
good and I will try and check it out later, for now
I,m going to have a cup of coffee and try and relax
before I attempt to do anymore
studying.
Hugs
Lynette

That's great to hear about the teachers and
school. If your happy and she is making adequate progress
then you are in a fortunate situation.
The
difficulty with SEN is when they have hidden difficulties
and nobody knows what they are.
At stage 3 your
SENCo should be able to give you the information about
parent partnership and the co-ordinators contact
number. It is usually stage 3 when this happens, although
personally i think this service should be available to any
parent who is concerned about their child. That way they
could get the info they need to be able to know who to
contact, what to say and agree with what the school will
do about it.
Hey, i might see you at the annual
meeting. They usually have this at Grantly Hall. I've made
lots of contacts there for our local parent
group.
Chez

Thanks for the info chez that old saying you
learn something new everyday is true.
I would
presume I come under York, as I live in
Fulford.
Katrina is on stage 3 of the special needs assesment
register.
I,ve never recieved anything from the LEA at all maybe
I should ask.
I attend all the meetings at
Katrinas school or as the professionals call them
reviews.
We have so many different people involved at the
meetings its like playing sardines in the headmasters
office. LOL.
I can honestly say the school and the
teachers and the rest of the staff are excellent with
Katrina, they really look after her and her teacher well
he,s the best you can get.
Lynette

Parent partnership is the links that parents have
with the LEA this is how you can find out lots about
what is going on in North Yorkshire. For example if
you contact your parent partnership co-ordinator they
can provide you with a 'named person'or befriender
who can support you in helping to get the info you
need and attend meetings and reviews.
Normally a
parent would receive an info pack from the LEA with the
appropriate contact names.
Do you come under
York?
Usually annual meetings are held for parents and
professionals. This is a chance to learn more about SEN and
feedback to the LEA what our views are.
Chez

You,ve lost me I dont know what parent
partnership meetings are.
Its kind of hard for a local
support group as all the problems she has were caused by
the Anticardiolipin Antibodies, because the doctors
wouldnt tell me what they were, mainly because I dont
think they knew, I did some research on the internet
and basically the antibodies are to do with an
Auto-immune Disease called Hughes Syndrome or in the rest of
the world Antiphospholipid Syndrome.
I belong to
two Internet support groups for Auto immune diseases
and a special needs internet support group, infact
the same one as Graeme (dolfrog).
Lynette

Hi Chez,
My daughter who is 6 is a special
needs child.
Its a long story but up until May 99
she was a normal 4 1/2 year old child, until she had
a maistoid surgery. Unfortunately problems
developed after the surgery due to something called
Anticardiolipin Antibodies.
I was told to expect to lose her
or if by some miracle she did live things wouldnt be
good for her.
She is quite lucky because she
attends a mainstream school, when she first started she
was in a major buggy because she couldnt walk,
although she can now because she is a fighter.

So
basically everything is more or less new to me and I have
learnt quite a bit since May 99.

My daughter has
several problems
Hearing impairment.
Visual
impairment.
Damage to the brain/ causes emotional and behavioural
problems.
She wears a splint on her right foot.
The right
hand side of her body is weaker than the
left.
Motor Co-Ordination Problems.
She manages to cope
very well with all of these though.

It is a big
step for you to take, you want whats best for your son
and sometimes fighting for what you want is the only
way.
Never give up hope though.
Hugs
Lynette

There great Lynette and i'm sure as oters join
the club they will find something useful.
Thanks
again.
Do you have a special needs child?
My son has
DCD. I will always refer to him as my son/child. He is
12 and i have to respect that he doesn't want to be
named.
I have applied for assessment so at the moment i am
busy getting my act together.
I feel this is a big
step to take, both for him and myself.
I just don't
want to reflect in years to come on what i could have
done and should have.
Plus i get the distinct
feeling that the special needs dept have not got their
act together.
Anyway, we will have to wait and see
what the outcome is.
I just hope i'm doing the
right thing.
CHEZ

set it up and my computer breaking down.
Anyway
i've had to replace it so that has put a hole in my

bit extra at the out of school club.
Hope you had
a good xmas and new year, i like the idea of
advertising the club. I think i will also put this on the

Hi Chez,
Luckly we werent flooded out although
the street on to the estate where we live was so we
had to get a lorry over everyday to get the children
to school.
The other clubs I am in are CofF which
is a support group for people who have Auto-immunne
diseases, Antiphospholipid Forum and the specialkidsintheuk
which I think Graeme gave you the link for
that.

Not sure if the first two groups would benefit this
club as its quite hard to describe them at
times.
How do you find the difference in childcare good or
bad?

You are right we really do need a group here and
maybe it would be a good idea to put something up at
the CDC in York District Hospital advertising the
fact that there is now an internet support group for
parents in north yorkshire.

Mind you I dont spend
as much time at the CDC now with my daughter as we
used to, alot of our appointments with specialists
have stemmed down to every six months.
Well will
talk again soon as my little ones are messing about at
the moment.
Hugs
Lynette

i have got problems with my computer.
My
daughter has let me use hers until i get a
replacement.
I really feel that we need a group here.
I live
just at the border of N.Yorks and i used to live in
W.Yorks, it's amazing what the difference is particularly
in childcare.
I hope you have got over the floods
and had a good xmas.
If you think that any of the
clubs that ypou are in or websites will benefit this
club, please feel free to leave them in the
links.
The contact is welcome, thanks.
Chez

Hi Graeme, it's very reassuring to know that
others like myself are doing their bit on the internet
in an effort to promote the awareness of these
invisable differences.
Much help is needed in the
schools and for parents to enable them to understand by
gaining more knowledge.
Could you give a brief
discription of what APD is and add a link.
I have made
your club an additional link for parents to
access.
Personally i find the yahoo clubs much more accessable and
the people here are friendly.
Keep me posted on
developments.
Thanks for the contact, it's much appreciated.
CHEZ

Hi Chez

thanks for pooping in to myu club,
which i have not really launched yet, it is to be
co-ordinated with a web site that i am developing in the New
Year.
I started the cklub initially to see how it differs
to my existing eGroup list wich will be merged into
Yahoo soon. But I will develop it soon. There is
another group down south covering Cereval Palsey and
other disabiliies and my aim is to link them all
together, and provide links to help and information.
I
have an existing Web site "Living with an Invisible
Disability" at www.dolfrog.com which covers dys from dyslexia
to autism, and my own disability APD Auditory
Processing Disorder.
There is a lik for dyspraxia there
as well Have a look around the site if you like, but
bare in mind it has been set up by and APD for APDs so
it is very visual, rather than text orientated,
which means the use of about 20 clipart animals on
various pages.

Keep in
touch

Graeme
dolfrog
dolfrog@...
www.dolfrog.com
