Subject : Ulster story!
Bonjour Francaises et friends,
As you may already know , I had a great time at the Ulster Grand
Prix.
The
whole meeting was fantastic, weather brilliant, and the racing was
the
best
I have ever seen.
The Norton ran fine , but was getting a bit hot in the later stages
(the
air temperature was probably about 25 - 30 celsius) The gearing was a
bit
long , so my top speed through the trap was 20mph down on two years
ago. I
think the engine is a bit tired now as well, but I planned to strip
it
down
after this event anyway.
Since the TT the front forks have been to Maxton and now have 15mm
more
travel. The rear damper was stripped and checked but no fault there.
I'm
happy to say that I didn't get the TT weaves! There were a couple of
fast
bumpy sections and it started to move a little, but nothing
frightening,
and it never looked like getting out of control. The top guys were
lapping
at 127 miles per hour, so very similar lap speed to the TT, and I got
a
fastest lap of just over 92 mph (Which if you translate that to
qualifying
time for the Manx would be JUST about fast enough)
I used the Dymag wheels front and back, with Michelin pilot race tyres
(soft front medium rear) probabl;y not just as much grip as
rennsports,
but
I could start to feel them slide a little quite predictably.
And now the funny bit:- I didn't touch the engine at all after the
TT,
never even took the tank off, and vraimant bizarre......... There was
not a
drop of oil leaking anywhere!!!! I cant explain that at all! I did
11
laps
practice and seven on race day (Just over 7 miles per lap) and the
whole
bike was totally sec.
Anyway, that is my brief report on how it all went, I won £100.00
prize
money, but we managed to eat and drink most of that on Saturday
night!!
Best wishes , salut a tous
Will speak to you all again soon
Andy
