Hi Huw, sounds like you had an interesting one at least!
Ty Croes this weekend didnt go too well, yesterday's (saturday)
trackday involved finding out that the tonfannau suspension set up
was not for ty croes.. so started getting somewhere in setting it up
during the second session when the big end bearings decided not to be
part of the web/conrod equasion and left me stranded at the top of
radar until the end of the session.
After pulling the front cylinder off we found a shagged piston and a
very slack conrod, luckily the bore wasnt so bad.
A few phone calls later we came across a complete bottom end for £50
with a good crank so off we went with the bike and van to get the
bottom end.
By eleven last night we had the bike running with my barrels and
head, the new bottom end and a borrowed piston(cheers robbie!).
Off we went to practice, got to the hairpin on the first lap and the
bike died... another chat with the marshals and a push back to the
paddock (cheers robbie again).
First thing to come off was the flywheel and I found a sheared
woodfruff key, luckily we had a spare from the old engine!
With a lot of loctite we secured it all and was set.
First race was basically my practise, had a lot of problems with the
suspension coming into school and the back end sliding through the
hairpin, finished last. The bike misfiring a lot didnt help either.
Second race was a lot better, although only managed 59 seconds
compared to the previous days 56, suspension felt better (cheers
robbie yet again!) but was still skipping the front coming out of the
dip from school, although it was not as bad as the first race. I had
changed a bit of the suspension, but had also been trying to find
another line through school so that may have helped.
Being only one of two orange vests out, I was stuck behind the guy in
front who was on a zxr, he had the lead on me down the straights, but
was seriously holding me up on the bends, apart from school! Me
being too polite meant me being unable to get him on the bends, but
on the lap before last I sussed if I ran wide through radar and got
on the power earlier coming out I just managed to pass him on the
straight down to the hairpin. Once passed him I set another in my
sights but alas the chequered flag came out..
So, got my signature, saw someone getting run over and didnt fall off
myself... ok weekend I guess, eventful at least. Roll on aintree in a
fortnight!
