My entry for the Manx GP has been accepted.
The only problem is that I have no bikes!
The F1 locked up at Donnington when a rotor gear collapsed.
My Commando is also looking a bit sad as the gearbox and engine are now
in bits.
So you may wonder why I put an entry in for the Manx.
I have been offered the loan of Ian Smiths 600 Honda by Rick of RJP
Racing to do the senior race. Unfortunately the engine let go on Ian in
the senior tt so now we are waiting to find a 2005 engine for a 600
Honda.
And am also looking for a 350 Classic for the Junior Race.
So if you know anyone with a decent 350 classic racer who would like to
see his bike going round the Isle of man please do your best to
persuade him that it would be a good idea.
Hi,
I operate a company which manufactures motion simulators. I'm
looking for help from anyone out there who has 3-4 minutes of good
quality on-bike video footage from virtually any form of racing.
This could be circuit racing, road racing (TT?), motocross etc. The
main criteria is that it be visually exciting with plenty of thrills
and spills. I'm hoping for a scene where the rider is shown
climbing onto the bike, revving up, then gunning it off the line.
The film would probably be home video taken with a handlebars
mounted camera. We're hoping to feature a suitable clip in one of
our simulator rides where we would create motion to mimic the
movements of the bike. If you think you've got a suitable bit of
(copyright free) film tucked away somewhere that we could use, I'd
be interested to hear from you. We'll pay up to £100 for a clip we
can use and of course you'd also have the satisfaction of knowing
your riding was going to be featured in machines we sell worldwide.
I'd also tell you the location of your nearest simulator so you
could go and try it with your kids for free.
Hi Huw
I missed you and Jullian in Cookstown. How are you
both. Are you coming To Athea. Looking forward to
seeing you and all the crew again. Everything on
target for Athea but I am not secretary this year, so
I will have plenty of time to chat with you both.
Keep in touch

Im going to give the F1 a run at Donnington this friday thats the 6th
of May.
We will be there all day
it a track day with no noise restrictions so bring your ear defenders.
Huw
Still trying to review this season and justify the prospect of
another.
Here is the latest progress or rather lack of progress report
Good news is the F 1 has fired up ready for another season,
The winter lay up procedure being stop it and then start it when you
want to use it next!
Bad news is there don't appear to be any races where the Bike can be
raced properly.
No forgotten era race at the Ulster gp for 2005.
The Manx gp have no place for interesting bikes.
I have no problem with their decision it's their race and they can
chose whose entry to accept.
I am at a loss to find many road races where the F1 can be raced and
be competitive.
The pre TT at Castletown has a post Classic class but when I asked
them if I could run the F1 in the pre tt they say the bike is too
modern.
It can still be raced in Ireland at the back of the support class
where I have to run against modern 1000cc twins and 600cc four-
cylinder bikes.
But it gets harder to qualify every year.
Not sure where to go but Im sure I will be out smewhere.
I will let you all know what im doing just as soon as I figgure it
out.
in this way but I am in a
privileged position having access to the club's database as part of
what I
do for the NOC.
I have recently joined the ranks of F1 owners. I found the bike
locked up
in a garage not far from where I live and after several years of
patience
and some negotiation I managed to liberate it. It desperately needs
to get
out with its brothers and to that end I have had a rack made that
should
enable me to attend rallies etc with a bit more kit on board. I know
this
may seem contrary to the spirit of the bike but practicality won out
in the
end. I found a fabricator who could make the rack in stainless
steel. This
he has done as a one off. A chance remark when I picked it up got me
thinking. He said "now we have done one we could make a jig and
produce a
number at a cheaper rate". Hence this mail. I am just gauging the
possible
interest in getting a batch of racks made. Obviously the price will
depend
on the number but if you might be up for it let me know and I will
make some
more enquiries. Attached you will see a couple of photos of the rack
as it
is at the moment. It still needs polishing and the fixings are
temporary
but it seems very sturdy and does not detract too much from the look
of the
bike.
<<DSCF0004.JPG>> <<DSCF0003.JPG>>
Let me know what you think. I will also try and contact people in the
Rotary club or if you know any other owners who may be interested
pass this
on. The more interest there is the lower the eventual price at the
end of
the day.

You now have to be a member of this group to post here.
Any members posting dating messages etc in future will be banned.

of course!!???.
Then I will be more than happy to have such postings.

Somebody somewhere must be able to STOP the infiltration of this site by " dating agencies"
Its a bike orientated site and should stay so...
Happy Christmas to one and all.... keeps those rotaries rotating ..... safe riding for 2005
Bro Snatch
PS anybody had trouble using Shell Rimula oils in the rotaries... shell ignored my complaint because I had no other proof ... just my scuffed rotary internals....
There will be no Classic or Forgotten Era Races at either the Dundrod
150 Road Races or the Ulster Grand Prix.
Following a difficult running of the inaugural Bike Week this
year, which was largely due to inclement weather conditions, the club
are still positive that the format is successful, and it returns for
2005. Some improvements, and alterations are made, as the club strive
to improve the event for all concerned.Ulster Grand Prix Bike Week
2005 will run from Monday the 15th of August to Saturday the 20th of
August, with Dundrod 150 National Road Races taking place on Thursday
the 18th and the International Ulster Grand Prix on Saturday the 20th.
The main changes for 2005 will see the 125cc/400cc event moved from
the International Ulster Grand Prix to the Dundrod 150 Races, whilst
the 250cc GP Race will feature as the third race in the Ulster Grand
Prix Programme. There will be no Classic or Forgotten Era Races at
either the Dundrod 150 Road Races or the Ulster Grand Prix, whilst
the 600cc Production Race is also axed from the Ulster Grand Prix
schedule. An Open B Race will be added to the schedule for Thursdays
racing, whilst a second Supersport 600cc Race will be held at the
Ulster Grand Prix Races. The Production 1000cc event now becomes the
Superstock Race. The organiser's feel that this revised programme
is
appealing to Newcomers who will get at least two races on Thursday at
the Dundrod 150 event before the Ulster Grand Prix on Saturday. It has
also been confirmed that Noel Johnston will again be acting as Clerk
of the Course, Peter O'Neill will again be treasurer and Leslie Moore
will be Race Co-Ordinator. RealRoadRacing.Com will operate the Press

Thanks to all who helped me this year.
Not the best year I have had.
The bike and rider showing sign of fatigue.
The F1 performed flawlesly as usual with the exeption of minor
gearbox trouble that was my fault.
The commando was a trail of tears breaking belts is cheaper than
breaking gearboxes though.
Disapointing not to get an entry at the manx on the F1 and the ugp
was a washout.
But I am ready for 2005
Huw
I have wanted to return to the Ulster gp since the foot and mouth
year when it was the only road race to run.
We set off on the evening ferry from Holyhead to Ireland landing at 8
o clock and travelling up to Dundrod with Dot Benson and Tim we got
to Belfast at around midnight and spent some time driving round some
decidedly dodgy looking areas until we finally found the circuit .To
be told that the security guard on the gate wouldn't let us in to the
paddock. Spending the night camped in the pit lane. we were awoken to
the knock on the door. Get up and in to the B paddock. Park over here
the standing water will clear said the marshal, sod this we said and
moved to a slightly drier position lower down the field, after
setting up the camp we took the commando and the f1 to sign on etc,
waited to start practice as the heavens opened and we waited to start
practice and it rained even harder. The practice was abandoned and we
went back to the caravan had a few beers. Conditions were little
better the next day. A riders briefing standing in the rain in the
pit the clerk of the course told riders that all that was necessary
to qualify was that we did 5 laps of the circuit on any bike.
I was waiting to go out and practice Phil Read came over and told me
I was mad to go out on cut slicks! I told him " honoured to be told
I was mad by Phil read" and that he was in good company as Robert
Dunlop had already told me I was mad a few years ago. He went away
shaking his head and muttering something under his breath. I went
out did 5 laps as required on a circuit with at least 4 river
crossings. I was starting to think that that Phil read bloke had a
point but I got round well enough even though a few classic bike came
past.
Friday was a day off so the weather cleared up enough to have stunt
displays etc and we joined in by standing next to the f1 and
answering questions.
Race day morning and it wasn't raining .got the f through scrutiny
and waited for it to be my turn.
By the time it was my turn things had already run late due to various
incidents.
By the time we were on the grid it was declared a 4-lap race and
after warm up lap we were off. After the run down the flying kilo I
had passed a few of them and had settled on having that Phil read
bloke in sight all going ok until one guy decided to head for the
field only to hit a fence that was in the way, from that point I sort
of knew that the race would get red flagged. Back on the grid we were
told that that was that and it would be declared a result.
Not happy but they had run out of time,
As we had won some prize money on the race we went to the Ballymac
for a meal and a few beers.
Arrived home Sunday night.
Went to bead.
That was my Ulster gp 2004-08-24
I was asked before we left if we would be back next year and I do
remember saying yes.
Thats road racing.
Hi
It has been a busy time so busy that I have had little time to post
anything here so sorry for that (must try harder)
In brief I have been breaking things left right and centre.
Athea was my first race where the commando broke its primary belt the
350 was flying and up to 4th place when that stooped and the F1 went
fine except for a funny noise (more on that later)
Since Athea I have been off work with the chickenpox.
I wasn't fully recovered but assured that I wasn't contagious so I
went to Faugheen.
I love these smaller Irish meetings the Clubs are so enthusiastic and
I admire any club that can start a new road race.
Faugheen is in the sunny south west of Ireland and it certainly lived
up to its reputation with 2 days of scorching weather.
I had told the team that I might not race if I wasn't feeling ok but
I didn't expect to blow 3 bikes.
I had an e mail off Ken saying that the 350 was worse than we thought
and that it would be unlikely to make it. The commando went ok for 2
laps then striped the primary and the F1 had its first mechanical
failure in 12 years when I noticed a noise and a vibration in 1st and
2nd gear, this turned out to be a broken gear.
So we went to the pub which is 200 yards from the paddock and stayed
three until we were full.
Had a lovely day watching the racing and won a trophy and a 50 Euro
note at the presentation (The battling adversity trophy apparently?)
Stayed the night for more beer and home the next morning.
I have since rebuilt the F1 and am about to look at the commando.
I hope to be at the Ulster GP for the post classic race and then go
to the isle of man for the Manx GP on the 350 (the entry was turned
down for the F1?)
See you at the races
Huw
We are off to Athea road races this weekend.
Not sure which bikes I will be riding as space in the van is limited
as I am having to share a van with Julian to spread the cost of the
ferry.
see you there
Huw
Just thought I`d let you know my wife and I visited Mallory Park on 13th June to see the Norton parades as well as the Classic bike racing. The museum exhibited and ran the Duckhams bikes and the JPN team bikes.
The No 5 JPN Norton pulled some spectacular wheelies along the start finish line at racing speed , within the pack of parading bikes, ( similar to the wheelies on the publicity photos) and the museum team wearing JPN shirts were sitting on the trackside barrier and their cheers were louder than the bikes themselves !
In the pits the familiar flames on overrun on a returning works bike was a sight to be remembered...
On a separate topic has anybody had problems using " Shell Rimula C40 " oil. I`m attempting to get shell to send me an accurate letter of confirmation that the Rimula C is a direct and equal replacement for Rotella X40..... and they hav`nt responded... my bike sits waiting a stripdown due to a possible bearing seizure / overheated and lack of lubrication problem. Please comment on this as I need some form of backup if I`m to take Shell to court for selling oil on a false description.
Sorry its been a bit quite of late my computer has been a bit sick.
Thanks to John for mending it.
Hope to be posting more as soon.
I have entered Athea and the Manx more paperwork to do get race
licence etc.
No real work done on the f1 through winter as most work has gone in
to the commando, which has had a major rethink of the outrigger
bearing for the clutch.
I will post some photos soon.
Huw
Ps
I welcome debate on any make or model of bike.
I love anything with an engine the dafter the better.
Hi Ashley,
Oh no did,nt realized that .......however
I stay on the group to follow
I just found a while ago a sound of a Norton rotary race bike
all I can say is that i was very IMPRESSED
what a great sound
for me a Norton is a Norton .......does,nt matter what type
a short story : years ago my wife worked as a nurse at a madhouse
outside on the parking place from a colleque was a Norton Commando
and when the colleque went home when he was on eve duty ....
he started the commando and all the mad folks getting more mad
they get very excited of the shaking deep sound of the Commando
so the guard of the madhouse asked the man to start the bike a mile
further away but he refused....let them enjoy
this was a true story ha ha.......I never forget that when I see a
commando

That sounds like a really nice bike and no doubt there are some on this list that can help out, do you realise you have subscribed to the Norton ROTARY list ?
Ashley
Hi I am Frank and am new to this group
No need to tell you than my passion is classic race bikes
in both directions to racers and scramblers
a year ago I bought a Manx 350 1957 to join classic races
for me ,I have to learn a lot on these neat racebikes
Hope you well. This is just to let you know that I will be at the TT
from June 2 to June 5. If you'll be around it will be nice to have a
pint together (no Norton there this year, sorry...). For the JPS
fans, I think that the only meeting that I'll do in England this year
with the RCW will be the Beezumph at Cadwell Park in mid-July. So if
somebody wants to hear "that particular" sound, that will be the
occasion.
Ciao and hope to see you soon.
