Hi group,

Been awfully quiet on the group lately!

Anyway, recently I've signed up to last.fm. If you're not familiar with
last.fm, it's a internet radio-cum-social networking site based around
music. It keeps track of what you listen to and uses that ti compile a
customised radio station tailored to your tastes. It seems to me to be
a good way of getting smaller bands' music exposed to a wider audience,
especially those bands that don't get airplay on mainstream radio. I've
already ordered Wishing Tree's album based on hearing a couple of plays
by them.

It's definitely *not* an illicit file-sharing site; tracks uploaded by a
band will be streamed by last.fm radio, but aren't available for
download unless the band decide to allow it. They're either streamed as
part of their customised radio station, or available as 30-second sound
clips on demand.

At the moment, there's nothing from Odin Dragonfly on there, so they're
not getting any plays :(

Yeah, I saw BN in Rome (where I'm staying for work right now) last

That would be the one thing that would get me to a Blackmore's Night
gig, if OD were the support :)

I get the feeling Fibbers is going to be one of those gigs where I
recognise just about everyone there :)

Hi there Tim,

I'll be going to The Fly as well. I saw them there earlier in the year, great little intimate basement bar. Normally the early curfews are due to the venues turning into a nightclub, don't think that will apply here but I can't be definite. Probably says something on the Barfly website.

Cheers,

Tommo.

[odindragonfly] Offerings Tour

Hi all!

Who on this list is going to any dates on the tour? I went to the gig
at Fibbers in February not quite knowing what to expect, but ended up
really enjoying it.

My current plan is go to both York and London, provided I can sort out
the logistics of getting from York to Slough (where my parents live) and
back out to London in time for the gig.

What time's the gig at The Fly? It's not on the website yet; is it one
of those really early curfews that seem to be typical for London weekend
gigs?

James,
Hello from Bishop Ca. I've just joined this small, but wonderful
group and I read your query about like minded people.
I just got onboard the Iona bandwagon, (Better late than never) and
purchased their DVD, "Live in London". Most excellent. They've really
won me over.
While I've not bought anything from MA at this point, I've never
heard anything bad about the distribution of their materials. In fact,
they're probably doing better on their own then when they were
affiliated with Cyclops, etc.
To be honest, I enjoy OD better than MA. This in no way means I
don't like MA, I just prefer OD. Just from the demos alone, I can
really get behind their work. I prefer the less bombastic approach
right now, and the girls really strike a chord with me.
I also enjoyed the 1st version of Karnataka, with Rachel Jones singing
and Anne- Marie Helder supporting. Karnataka was more light weight
than MA too.
Magenta also intrigues me. Good stuff.
It's tough on us "Yanks" to ever hope to see the girls, or any of
these wonderful bands. The geography conspires against us. Especially
all the way from California. But, I hope the girls, and other bands
know that we support them, and we'll try to see them when we can.
I plan on getting over to Scotland and Ireland next spring, and if
OD is playing somewhere, I WILL see them.
Feel free to e-mail me, James, if you like, and we can exchange
stories.
Thanks also to Angela, and Heather for giving us fans a chance to
express ourselves, and a place to trade info.
    Cheers, Ken Hooper

Just like to say to anyone who's out there what a thoroughly enjoyable
show it was. It was an absolute joy to be present and I only hope that
you can get back to the South East again soon.

I'd also like to reiterate my thanks to you for plugging the new
Magenta single and Tina sends her love.

Cheers,

Tommo.

BTW - 2 people called Tomlin on this site - what are the chances of
that ?

I'm out here in central California. I've been a huge fan of the UK
band Iona for many years, which led me to Troy Donockley's solo work,
which then led me to Mostly Autumn. Just got my first M. A.
disc, 'The Spirit of Autumn Past', which I've been listening to at
least once every day since. Really like all the songs, and now
have 'For All We Shared' on its way. Especially like the songs with
Heather's vocals and Angela's flute ("Pieces of Love", "Evergreen"
and "The Gap Is Too Wide" - WOW!!!), so I'm really anxious to get
whatever disc they put together as Odin Dragonfly.

Love the O.D. logo, BTW - it looks like an old white oak tree I have
down by the creek on my property up here in the Sierra foothills.

Anyone else here in the US? If so, have you ordered any merchandise
from MostlyAutumnRecords.com? I would like to know how it worked out
with the $ exchange rate, postage/shipping and time to deliver etc.
Would also like to know which M.A. albums to get, as I've seen some
reviewers of the newer albums complain that Heather & Angela aren't
featured as much as they should be.

BTW - heard that Heather sings on the final track of Iona's
new 'Circling Hour' album, which is on its way to me now. Will post
follow-up with my review soon.

faithfully,
James

At the "Auden and Folk" evening...

Compere (reading from a note): "Odin Dragonfly send their
apologies but can't attend tonight due to severe back problems."

Voice from audience: "That word is 'band'."

Compere (squinting at paper): "Oh yes, severe *band* problems!"

*Phew*

Well... I thought it was funny anyway... :-P

Great to see that Odin Dragonfly have there own message board/forum.
Now all we need is some folks to come and visit! :)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the upcoming gigs in Rotherham and York.

Cheers,

Roger
