There are small arrows (triangles) at the four corners and another
four at the mid-point of each side which allow you to recentre the
map. Those, plus the zoom facility on the left of the map window
allow you to get to the area of interest. It is rather cumbersome,
however, and you only get to see that limited area of map within the
window.
I recall that the original incarnation of http://www.old-maps.co.uk
allowed you to pan around within an entire map and even download the
whole image if you wanted. Presumably that was seen as over-generous
since the aim was commercial. The current version does however give
access to maps from different epochs, whereas the old site (I think)
only had first epoch (1843-1893) maps.
Landmark do supply full map images on a commercial basis:
http://www.landmarkinfo.co.uk/corp/historical_map_data.jsp
http://www.landmarkinfo.co.uk/corp/graphics/corp2/techInfoLeaflet.pdf
- but there is no readily available list of prices, which I assume
are negotiated individually.
If you are lucky you may find that your area of interest is amongst
the scanned maps published by Digital Archives Assoc:
http://www.digitalarchives.co.uk/
The map images are "as is" and are not orthorectified like the
Landmark images, but the image quality seems better to me - greyscale
or colour rather than Landmark's black & white.
